1 | well of life and Tree of Life | John 4:14 | geof | 129319
In Spenser's poem The Faerie Queen, Redcross Knight was fighting the evil Dragon. But the knight was defeated twice. The first time he was nourished by the well of life and got refreshed. He went to fight the Dragon again and again was defeated by the Dragon. He then was nourished by the Tree of Life. the third time he defeated the Dragon. My question is: Is the Well of life singly not powerful enough to strengthen him with the power to defeat the Dragon?
2 | well of life and Tree of Life | John 4:14 | srbaegon | 129320
Hello geof, You should not be so concerned about fictional characters. I know nothing of this poem, but from the analogy given, Spenser's theology is all wrong. The well of life (actually well of water springing up to eternal life - John 4:14) is a picture of the Holy Spirit. He is more than powerful enough to defeat the Dragon. Steve |
