1 | What do you think? | John 3:16 | Annaciah | 47393
What do you think only begotten refers to in John 3:16. And in Matthew 27:46, what do you think Jesus meant when he said in a loud voice, "My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?" and whom do you think he was speaking to? I capitalized Thou because that is how it is written in my bible. |

2 | What do you think? | John 3:16 | jawz | 47424
"only begotten" refers to the fact that Jesus always existed, he was not created as we have been created by God. God was always Father, Son and Holy Spirit. John 8:58 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!" The expression "I am" is the same used by God to Moses in Exodus 3:14 and in many places in in Isaiah. It denotes his eternal nature, the fact that he has always existed. The Nicene Creed sums it up nicely. I believe in one God, Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages, Light from light, true God from true God, begotten not made, of one essence with the Father, through him all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became man, And was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried, And rose on the third day according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, And He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who together with the Father and the Son, is worshipped and glorified, and Who spoke through the Prophets. In one Holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I expect the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen. |

Thank you for your time. What is the Nicene Creed? |

4 | Thank you | John 3:16 | jawz | 47431
The Nicene Creed or the Symbol of faith as it is otherwise known was formulated as a succinct statement of the christian faith (as revealed in the scriptures) in order to combat the heresies that were prevelant at the time. It was written by the First Ecumenical Council at Nicaea in 325 C.E., with additions by the first Council of Constantinople (381). There is dispute over the addition of the words "and the Son" in the sentence "And I believe in the Holy Spirit the Lord, and Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son]" - by the church in Rome which is one of the issues which led to the schism around 1054. The Orthodox church holds to the original wording laid down by the councils, while the Roman Catholic church (and most Protestant churches since they still include much of their Catholic origins) have the addition. Although the Nicene creed is not scripture, it is based soundly on scripture and on the teaching of the Apostles passed on through the church. |

5 | ? Tribes of Israel | John 3:16 | Annaciah | 47557
What do you know of the Tribes of Israel? And if you are knowledgeable of them, would you say that they are a basis for denominational religion? I'm assuming that Acts must deal in this as the premises. I have heard people speak of them but have had no correlation. I also have heard that when reference is made to a specific name and that he lived for 200 or so years, that this refers to the whole tribes existance? If you believe this what do you suppose happened to the whole tribe. These days it would appear that a whole group of people would hardly disappear, but then I suppose it would be possible. Of course, I see God taken from many things these days, so I would also suppose that non-existance happens in more ways than one! Thank you again!
6 | ? Tribes of Israel | John 3:16 | meusing | 47579
Boy, Annaciah, you ask a lot of questions in one post. 1. The information about the Tribes of Israel is to be found in the Five books of Moses especialy Jacob's(Isaac's) blessing of them in Gen. 49. 2. God alone is the basis for our religion. 3. The book of Acts is about the acts of the Apostles not the tribes of Israel. 4. When the Bible says that a person lived 200 or so years, it means that that person lived 200 or more years. ----------------- P.S. that is the first time I have ever heard the expresion "non-existance happens". Interesting. |

9 | Different | John 3:16 | Annaciah | 47694
In Deuteronomy it speaks of Moses giving different blessings to tribes, it talks of the different stones they would carry to the Jordan and the laws they would write upon them. Later in the New Testament it talks of the twelve apostles that walked with Christ. The different tribes had different laws and the different apostles had different views and if Religion today comes from God, let's say ten or twelve different religions, that it is possible that they may have began a very long time ago with the tribes and carried on forever. Know that I am not asking you for the right answer but I'm asking you for your opinion. Like a discussion. Or perhaps, you know something about this that you would share and most undoubtly raise another question for me. No just kidding. I've read and when I go back and read I see different things, and when I talk to others, I hear different things. The right answer I do believe comes from that. Just wanted your view on the different tribes, the different apostle and the different religions? |

Annaciah, since your first statement is false, all the rest of you post is based on falsehood. There was only one LAW. Read 1 Kings 11 to see what God thinks of following different religions. It cost Soloman's decendants the kingdom. Peter said : Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in and through no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by and in which we must be saved. Heb 1:1 IN MANY separate revelations [each of which set forth a portion of the Truth] and in different ways God spoke of old to [our] forefathers in and by the prophets, Heb 1:2 [But] in the last of these days He has spoken to us in [the person of a] Son, Whom He appointed Heir and lawful Owner of all things, also by and through Whom He created the worlds and the reaches of space and the ages of time [He made, produced, built, operated, and arranged them in order]. Heb 1:3 He is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the divine], and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God's] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power. When He had by offering Himself accomplished our cleansing of sins and riddance of guilt, He sat down at the right hand of the divine Majesty on high, |

Thank you so much. I did not come to this forum with the answers, I came with questions. Often, I don't know how to ask them for fear of offending someone else, so I present what I have seen or heard to be truths and the responses I receive will most generally lead me to answers I'm looking for. What I meant to imply by not wanting the right answer was I was looking for direction. Thank you again. |

Ok, sorry I came on so strong. While Deut. 27 does say that the Children of Israel were to build an alter of stones, he very distictly commanded them to write on them ALL THE WORDS OF THE LAW. 27:3,8. Of course, all the law and even the teachings of Jesus do not provide us the power to keep them. That is only acomplished when we live and abide in Him. If we try to keep the law and even the teachings of Jesus in our own strength, we will fail. That is why Jesus came. that is the truth of the verse at the top of this page (John 3:16). |

Thank you all so very much for your comments. All of what was said gave me the direction I needed. I have visited many a church. I do so enjoy gathering in his name. I do believe that a man should stand 100 percent whereever it is he stands. I however, have not found a church that I can represent 100 percent, and this is not to say that I am right, it's to say I need to find it's origin before I can represent it. I do not know who the children of Israel were, nor do I know where. This is the truth that I seek. Am I his seed and did he come for me. You have all given me answers that will lead me in a direction and I do appreciate it. Thank you. |

You asked "Am I his seed and did he come for me?" Neither. our sins seperated us from God. God sent His Son Jesus 'so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.' Eph 1:4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love Eph 1:5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, Eph 1:6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. Eph 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace |
