A person can be forgiven any sin, Jesus said offenses against the Holy Spirit are Never forgiven. When you view the passages concerning this, please note there was an accusation of Jesus working miracles through the power of the Devil. This was saying that the works of God were coming through the Devil's agency. If you are saved, you can not do this, you have the Spirit within, and you won't attribute the works of God to the Devil. When you study this out, many feel the greatest sin is rejecting the testimony of Jesus, his ability to save us. My personal view after thirty years of considering this question is, when you reject Jesus you are guilty of the unpardonable sin. The Spirit brings the message of salvation through Jesus to a person, when this message is rejected, you have rejected the Holy Spirit, that sin CAN'T be forgiven. Please note the Holy Spirit is in the Jesus promotion business, not the promotion of himself. |

To re phrase my answer, MTT 12:32 Speaking against Jesus can be forgiven, speaking against the Holy Ghost is not EVER forgiven. MTT 12:24 This one drives out demons by the power of Beelzebub... The ones who accused were dead set against the idea that Jesus was from God. All through chapter 12 MTT Jesus' accusers sought any and all reason to accuse Jesus of sin, and violations of Moses law. The entire tone of their remarks was rock hard resistance to Jesus, even in the face of pure logic, in vs 25, ...If the Devil drives out the Devil he fights himself, how can his kingdom stand... The miracles Jesus had done and his teachings left no doubt to many of the common people that he was from God, at least, if not the Messiah. The entirety of Chapter 12 in MTT is about believing who Jesus is, even if they rejected the idea of him being the Messiah, he proved God was working through him. Even among the Pharisees many believed he was from God. This group in chapter 12 had a very strong and unreasonable resistance to Jesus ministry. So if one sorts through this one can conclude that the Holy Spirit is offended when you attribute the work of God to the Devil, and rejecting Jesus' work as being from God. So it is rejecting Jesus is what can not be pardoned. The flip side of this is when you receive Jesus you have eternal life, ALL sins are forgiven...John 3:16. If one accepts Jesus as Savior the sin against the Holy Spirit does not exist for that person, so it is not an issue. |
