1 | Do God love everyone or not? | John 3:16 | yura | 176069 | ||
hello, dear brothers and sisters!I have a very important question: Do God love everyone or not? Many people say He loves everyone,basing on John 3:16. Other people think that "the world" means "mankind" and not every person. Please answer me how do YOU think? P.S.Though I live in Russia and know that Christians everywhere have the same questions regardless of the place they live. Thank you.God bless you. |

Hello yura, Welcome to the Forum and God Bless you! I believe a straight-forward, literal reading of John 3:16 is sufficient. The passage says what it means, and means exactly what it says! I would caution against those who "say" it means something else. The general meaning of the word, kosmos (Gr.) is order or world. Mankind would also imply the world. A.T. Robertson, a noted 20th Century Greek scholar made this comment: "The world [ton kosmon]. The whole cosmos of men, including Gentiles, the whole human race. This universal aspect of God’s love appears also in II Cor. 5:19; Rom. 5:8." Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

yura, i encourage you to read psalm 1, 2, and 51. the reason being that they give a more complete view of how God views and deals with humanity. also, the reference to 2 corinthians 5:19 would be better understood in light of verses 14 and 15. verse 15 implies that "all He died for" live for Christ. the intimate love of God is experienced only when a person is in Christ. that is why the letters in the new testament talking about His intimate specific love are written to the "churches" and not to the world at large. |
