Hi, Ocelot... Just for the purpose of informing, there are three common theological positions regarding this question: 1. God sent Jesus to redeem everybody Christ's death was efficacious for all men; i.e., all men are saved. This is called universalism. 2. God sent Jesus to redeem everyone who would believe (have faith) and take advantage of Christ’s work. Thus, Christ’s death was potential atonement, not actual atonement. This is called universal atonement, a tenet of Arminianism. 3. God sent Jesus to redeem only the elect, the chosen church. Thus Christ’s death was an actual atonement, but only for those who will be saved. This is called definite atonement, a tenet of Reformed theology. In Him, Doc |
