Hi Ocelot, Do you truly believe that you might turn your back on the Lord that redeemed you, and walk away, and doing so, lose your redemption, no longer be a "new creation", no longer be spiritually discerning, so that you could no longer understand the truth of the Bible? That you could, through an act of your will, change your nature from "living spirit", a nature that was given you, not having anything to do with your righteousness of unrighteousness, back to "spiritually dead", as a result of your unrighteousness? That you consider there could come a time that you fell under the allure of sin so completely, and rebeliously, that the Lord would despair of His ability to snap you out of it, to keep you for Himself, even after all those promises? Or is this to you a purely academic question, considering if it is merely "theoretically possible" to become "un-born-again". I wonder if those who tell others that they could lose their salvation believe that it could happen to themselves? I also wonder it those who say one can become "unredeemed" realize the dramatic and widespread implications of what it would mean, and what would be involved, for that to actually happen? Hi Mark. I’m not going to say that my belief is more attractive than yours. I’m not going to get into a debate with you. I’ve stated what I believe and why at the request of Sam here. I actually tried to avoid it for fear of an argument. I’m not trying to “lead him astray”. I will add however that I DO believe that I could lose my salvation. I’m not some pompous hypocrite. With Christian Love, Ocelot. P.S. Mark, it is always a pleasure to converse with you, even when we don’t agree. You always seem to display a true Christian character of love. That is not always the case with some posters, I’m afraid myself included. |

Hi Ocelot, Thank you for your kind words. I do not, by any stretch of the imagination, consider myself to be the paragon of Christian Love! We all just do the best we can, eh? I don't judge beliefs by their attractiveness or lack thereof, because if something is true according to God's word, and it doesn't appeal to me, that is because there is something wrong with me, not with the truth. I appreciate your position regarding this question of eternal security. I have not considered you to be hypocritical, I merely wished to put a fine point on it, so to speak. Many will talk about this, yet betray themselves later to believe that they are immune, as they think it through more deeply. I believe quite strongly in the eternal security of all true believers. We need not debate the issue. Mostly, I wished to provoke the consideration of the peripheral issues of the loss of salvation, the undoing of all that had been done. That which is born-again must die-again, Chosen from the foundation of the world becomes not chosen, there's a lot more to it. Myself, I just don't see how the Bible allows for all that. This is a serious issue for me in that what someone believes will impact their lives, and their understanding of Who God is, and how to understand His Word. Personally, the discovery of the permanance of being a new creation, the complete and total separation from my sin, how I have been re-created in "true righteousness and holiness", revolutionized my entire life, my walk with Jesus, and filled my with "joy unspeakable, and full of glory". There is now nothing I fear, as I understand His Love and Power. Oh, there are things that still trouble me, I'm not that far, yet, but I have a Rock of Salvation that cannot be moved. I wish that same experience for others. For some, it comes from studying Romans 8. For me, it came while studying Colossians 3. Well, enough rambling! Love in Christ, Mark |
