1 | is selling in a church building fine? | John 2:16 | 42554
what do you think of the idea of selling items e.g hotdogs, cake e.t.c for, for instance, youth fund-raising in the church building. is this not what Jesus rebuked against in the temple where he found people selling their merchandise?
2 | is selling in a church building fine? | John 2:16 | srbaegon | 42555
Hello fungie There is a difference between the temple and church buildings. The temple (and tablernacle before that) was God's residence. His continuous presence required the utmost holiness in all things, inside and out. A church building is just a building. God does not dwell there, rather He dwells in the believers. Buildings are not even required to have a church. Therefore, one could use the building for whatever moral, legal, ethical purpose you desire. On the other hand, I have a dislike for fund-raisers for the Lord's work based on 3 John 7 "accepting nothing from the Gentiles." But that's a preference issue. You do as you please. Steve |

3 | Accept support from only believers? | John 2:16 | Mommapbs | 42557
Greetings Steve: Although many believers feel the same way that you do (ref. III John:7) where did all the gold and silver come from that went into the building of the Tabernacle? According to Exodus 12:35-6, the Israelites plundered the Egyptians when they left. It seems to me that when the Tabernacle was eventually constructed, unless the former slaves of Egypt had been mining for gold in the desert, it was funded by the Gentiles! If all things come from the Hand of God, should we choose to accept only from believers? Your sister in the Lord, Mommapbs |

4 | Accept support from only believers? | John 2:16 | srbaegon | 42561
Hello Mommapbs As you have stated, the Israelites "plundered" the Egyptians. I see it as just recompense for the years of slavery. God executed His vengeance on Egypt and allowed Israel to benefit from it. There was an occasion (Corinth) where Paul even refused to accept money from believers because he wanted nothing to get in the way of the ministry. I just think we need to be careful about who funds the Lord's work. Steve |
