Greetings Robert! Like Lionheart, I am not sure what exactly has you stumped about this verse. The point is fairly simple. Now that Christ has died, we are no longer under the old covenant, but a new one (of which, the old was only a shadow - Heb. 10). Unlike the old covenant, where atonement had to be made yearly, Christ has died once for all (Heb. 10:2-12). Or, to put it like Paul does in Romans 8:3, "For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, 4 in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit." I hope this helps my friend! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Thanks Tim. Well, I guess I'm not explaining myself very well. The comment came up on paltalk that until Christ actually died the New Covenant wasn't in effect. One implication of this statement is that the gospels are not part of the NT in some sense since Christ had not yet died when the content of the gospels took place. If true, then the gospels are more like transitional books between the OT and the NT than they are NT books (although they were written after Christ's death their content took place during the time of Christ). I wondered what the panel thought. | ||||||

Greetings Robert! Thanks for the explanation! I would say that the pastor was 'straining at gnats'. :- The gospels are part of the NT and always have been. All of the NT documents were written after the death and resurrection of Christ anyway! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
