1 | NASB accuracy to Greek and Hebrew | John 1:1 | Edie | 106575
Regarding the NASB translation of the Bible: Can you give me your views and supporting sources on the accuracy of it to the Greek and Hebrew manuscripts? Recently, I was told that the translators of the modern Bibles intentionally left out the article "a" in the verse John 1:1 (ie. the famous God vs "a god" translation arguement) Unfortunately, not being a Greek/Hebrew scholar, I had no convincing response to give him, so responded that I would not acccept his assertion of intentional omission by the NASB translators anymore than he would accept my assertion that his NWT was inaccurate. Pretty weak huh? What say ye on this matter? If any of you can translate Greek or Hebrew I am very interested in hearing your input. Thank you, In Christ and loving Him, Edie |

2 | NASB accuracy to Greek and Hebrew | John 1:1 | Edie | 106617
Thank you to all who responded to this question!! Tho' I have no understanding of Greek nor probably ever will have any grasp of it (It's all Greek to me- ooooh, I know, bad joke), I have gained insight into God's Word and why I believe as I do! After all that is what this is all about. The challenges put to me by the JWs have been turned into a blessing by our ONE True God the Father, God The Son and God the Holy Spirit. 3 | NASB accuracy to Greek and Hebrew | John 1:1 | Morant61 | 106630
Greetings Edie! Very bad joke! :-) I pray that God will richly bless you as you share the gospel with your friends! May I add one personal bit of advice as well? Share the truth with them, by all means! However, remember to season your words with prayer and love. JW's are taught that Christians hate them. If you come on to strong, it will simply 're-enforce' what they have been taught. But, if you responds to them lovingly, it will 'shake' the foundations of what they have been taught. May God use you to bring the truth of the Gospel to those who need to hear it! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

4 | NASB accuracy to Greek and Hebrew | John 1:1 | Makarios | 106645
Greetings again, Tim, I was thinking about Matthew 5:43-48 during the latest discussion about Jehovah's Witnesses here at the Forum, and I was also thinking to myself that many groups (or what we call "cults" as Christians) put us to shame with their outward efforts of 'evangelism.' But the one thing that would make our efforts and our way even more attractive, and to possibly even win them over to faith in Christ, is to show love to them as well. "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." Christ's words in John 15:17 come to mind, "These things I command you, so that you will love one another." I believe that authentic, true to life Christianity could be as infectious and spreading in this world as anything that this world has ever seen! And it starts with us, who have been entrusted with the stewardship of the gospel, as Paul was. Blessings to you, Makarios |

5 | NASB accuracy to Greek and Hebrew | John 1:1 | Edie | 106655
Thank you Tim and Makarios, You are definitely correct regarding the love we must show to others - adversary or not! The conversations I have had with my JW friends have all been very cordial in tenor and demeanor. I actually like them very much! I am totally convinced that God loves and finds value in all human beings (even those who are in the darkness like Saddam Hussein). Otherwise, how can I be so sure that He loves me????? I am convinced that God wants EVERYONE home with Him. He is an inclusive God, not an exclusive God. The primary thing anyone needs to do is accept God's gift of love, mercy, and redemption. Prayer for God's will to be worked in our lives according to His great plan is a powerful thing. Your sister in Christ Jesus Edie |
