Who's on first? Another blast from the past Repost: Makarios: Thank you for your kind words. But you are in error regarding who's at shortstop. There is near universal agreement among evangelical scholars that the Greek text of the passage to which you refer is better translated as follows: "Who's on first. What's on second. I don't know's on third base." The debate over this issue of whether who's on first or who's on shortstop became so heated that it was the underlying cause of the split between the eastern and western divisions of the church back in 600 A.D. This debate then stirred the clergy on one side or the other to fall into league with those of like beliefs. The outcome was two main organizations: the National league and the American league. Debate among the clergy was forbidden by a document signed by Pope Dimaggio III at St. Abner Doubleday Cathedral. As a later result, dissident Bishop Steinbrenner was tried and sentenced and executed by drowning in Gator Aid. So I hope you see the seriousness of your error when you say Who's at shortstop. For your penance you must sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame 10 times. And you must mean it from your heart. Now go and make no more errors. Hits and runs are preferable every way. kalos |
