1 | EdB, Did He die on Thursday? | John 19:31 | Makarios | 8230 | ||
Dear Steve and EdB, I have visited my friend, and he has given me his answer concerning this question, "was Jesus crucified on Thursday or Friday".. He was feeling 'good' today, and he graciously accepted my question and answered it. I have to be honest, however 'shocking' his answer may be.. I told him that a friend of mine was trying to tell me that Jesus was crucified on Thursday instead of Friday. His response was.. "It was a Thursday. John 19:31 tells us it was the day before a Sabbath. John 19:14 tells us which one - the annual Sabbath of Passover week (which always falls on the 15th of Aviv), not the weekly Sabbath (which always falls on Friday night to Saturday night). When He rose on Sunday morning, just before sunrise... (KJV) Matthew 28:1, "After the sabbaths, toward the dawning of the first of the week, came Mary the Magdalene, and the other Mary, to see the sepulchre," Mark 16:2, "and early in the morning of the first of the week, they come unto the sepulchre, at the rising of the sun," Luke 24:1, "And on the first of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, bearing the spices they made ready, and certain [others] with them," John 20:1, "And on the first of the week, Mary the Magdalene doth come early (there being yet darkness) to the tomb, and she seeth the stone having been taken away out of the tomb," Now this is NOT just when they discovered the tomb empty, but Matt 28 tells us that there was an earthquake and the women watched an angel roll the stone away that sealed up His tomb. If He died on a Friday, you'd only have him in the tomb 2 nights, 1 day and part of another day. Yet He said He would be "in the heart of the earth" for 3 days and 3 nights. Count backwards from Sunday morning 3 days and night and you are at Thursday afternoon. There's a lot of other reasons we can fix his death on Thursday. In fact, I think it's safe to say it was Thursday, the 14th of Aviv in 30 AD." So there you have it! I have been "proven" wrong, and my fallibility has been proven once again.. I have to hand it to you, Steve and EdB, you really proved that my commentaries aren't always the "highest sources" of information that we can go. After our visit, I was in a state of 'bewilderment' as to how I was going to communicate this to the Forum, and this fellow's grandson (who is also a Messianic Jew) saw me there and told me to check out the following website: http://members.home.net/joe.viel/learn/mc/cruxweekh.htm Thanks for the discussion. I stand corrected and I have learned a lot. |

Nolan ... There will be people who will still refuse to believe that He died on Thursday. I wonder if JVH or Radioman will accept what you have learned. I am still trying to get my pastor to respond to me about his saying, the Lord entered Jerusalm on Aviv 10 (Sunday) and died on Friday ... itr is not four days. I can add http://members.home.net/joe.viel/learn/mc/cruxweekh.htm to my list ... http://www.nazarene.net/Calander/thsun.html http://www.loriswebs.com/lorispoetry/crucifix.html Plus ... http://www.discover.net/(tilde)ajgood/crucified.html put a tilde in place of (tilde) ... I cannot enter a tilde here I think some commentator's believe what they are told. This one is steeped in tradition, of many centuries. Have a wonderful Wednesday, Steve |

Steve, Please be careful here! You stated, "I wonder if JVH or Radioman will accept what you have learned." There is hardly anyone on the Forum of whom I have more respect for than JVH0212, he of whom has written more than 1,000 postings, all filled with treasures of deep insight and analysis! I can only have respect for him, and I view his postings a little bit differently than everyone else's.. (A reputation that is earned and well deserved!!) :) As for Radioman, he has proven to me also that he is one who is worthy of respect through his postings with sound reasoning.. He has also earned his place on this Forum. As EdB likes to put it, "Bless and be a Blessing".. Have a great Wednesday! Nolan |
