1 | How does the devil tempt us? | John 13:27 | LuckyCharm | 65471
We are told that Satan "entered into" Judas just before he betrayed Jesus. What does this mean? Can Satan or other evil spirits enter into people and control them? Can they read our thoughts? Can they simply tempt us subtly without gaining access to our inner being? Does it make a difference whether one is a believer or not? I have heard many answers to these questions over time, but am specifically interested in any applicable Scripture references. Thanks in advance to any who may respond, --Cheryl |

2 | How does the devil tempt us? | John 13:27 | Rich-n-Him | 65523
Short answer: As Jesus was tempted in the wilderness in three areas, (Matt 4) Believers are tempted in the same 3 areas, Lust of the eyes, Lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. (1Jn 4:15-17) Judas is a "special" case you see. Remember Jesus said, Have not I chosen you 12 and one of you is a devil? Jn6:70 Judas is also called the "Son Of Perdition" by Jesus Jn17:12. How far do you want to go with this? Believers are sealed by the Holy Spirit Eph. 4:30 and cannot be possessed by evil spirits since God's spirit has possession of us, but evil spirits can and do try to get us to loose control of our emotions, attitude and blow our witness for Christ or "act" like the devil to bring reproach on His name. 3 | How does Satan communicate with us? | John 13:27 | LuckyCharm | 65543
Thanks for the response, and all the helpful Scripture references, Rich-h-Him! You mentioned Jesus' temptation in the wilderness -- in that case, Satan actually spoke to Him aloud (if we read the text literally). But I don't believe I've ever heard Satan speaking audibly to me. So I was kinda wondering, does he just whisper really softly? Does he get "into my head" and put ideas there? Does he speak through other people, or influence their behavior for his own ends? If so, how would he get them to say and do things? Just wondering, --Cheryl |

4 | How does Satan communicate with us? | John 13:27 | inmyheart | 65557
Cheryl, Satan is the father of lies, he will use every situation to attack you. Here are a few verses to help you recognize some areas that liar uses. When these areas arise, we are to cast them down, or reject them, or not entertain them. 2Cr 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 2Cr 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2Cr 10:6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. 5 | How does Satan influence us? | John 13:27 | LuckyCharm | 65567
Thanks, inmyheart. Powerful verses you cite... But I was really looking for insight as to how Satan operates (from Scripture, of course). Can he cause my neighbor to do something thoughtless, tempting me to anger? Can he cause a friend to lie to me, planting bitterness in my heart? Can he put evil thoughts in my mind?? Any input is appreciated! --Cheryl |

6 | How does Satan influence us? | John 13:27 | inmyheart | 65570
Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. And be not conformed to this world, meaning don't be squeezed or pressured into the mold of this world. We are to be transformed, or changed. And the way to be changed is to renew our mind. For us to get to our destiny and purpose in life, we have to transformed. The born-again experience has elevated us to a higher standard, and once we are elevated to that higher standard of living we are to renew our mind, and "bring our minds" up to that higher standard, so we can operate effectively. We want to make it to our destiny, one of the things we found out is that the enemy (satan) is after our souls. Our souls consist of our mind, will and emotions. In Matthew 6:25, we are not to worry, well one the the ways the enemy will attack you in through your mind, he will send a thought, and we are to cast those those thoughts down or out of our minds. In fact the bible instructs us on what to think about in Philippians 4:8-9. Well, this can go into a study, so I'll stop here. I pray that this has given you some information. Don't forget Jesus, is the author and finisher of our faith, we have the victory! God bless. P.S. Yes, to all of your ? |
