1 | Sin in the life of a believer? | John 13:10 | WalkingTalkingBible | 121069
Hi, Mommapbs! Jesus washed the feet of the of His disciples to show that He is humble. Philippians 2:5, 8 says, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: . . . and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." John 13:3-17 teaches that the believer has to be cleansed from sin, and remain clean, to be a part of the Kingdom of God. As stated in Isaiah 59:1-2, it is sin that separates man from God. Look at it this way: You have a white robe that you wear daily and it is heavily soiled with all kinds of nasty stuff, but it never bothered you before. Now, it's nasty to you and you want to continue to wear this robe, so you find out about a dynamic cleanser, you try it and it cleans your robe completely! Now the stuff that you cleaned off of your robe are still around and could possibly get your robe soiled again. But this time, when you put on your clean white robe, you are careful not to get anything on it. Because you are human, you unwillingly get something on your robe - but you have this dynamic cleanser - so you wash it again. So is the life of a believer. The unbelievers sin and do not know that there is a Remedy for their sin, or they simply haven't made up their minds to stop sinning and get help. But believers know that Remedy and if they sin (unwillingly, of course), they know how to repent, ask for forgiveness, and astain from sin. But sin is sin whether a believer or unbeliever and God will deal with it as so. 2 Peter 1:9 speaks of someone who started off in the faith, but did not grow spiritually. "But he that lacketh these things (faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love) is blind. . . and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins." WTB: You wrote: "But sin is sin whether a believer or unbeliever and God will deal with it as so." God has already dealt with sin - at the cross. The one who is shortsighted or has forgotten that he has been cleansed of sin does not lose the result (eternal life)of that cleansing but does not enjoy the abundant life that the cleansing makes possible. (With lots of foot baths along the way - "Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; Acts 3:19 The times of refreshing are only available for those who are IN CHRIST, for those whose sins have been erased, obliterated, the penalty for sin has been satisfied and the believers debt is cancelled.) You wrote, "2 Peter 1:9 speaks of someone who started off in the faith, but did not grow spiritually." This verse does not tell us that God will deal with that sin (not growing spiritually)by taking away the cleansing they recieved. This is what Jesus was speaking of when He told His disciples that they were clean and only needed a foot bath! For the one who has been washed, regenerated by the Holy Spirit, the penalty (eternal separation from God) for sin is removed. (As believers) When we choose to agree with God about areas in our lives that need His attention, we glory only is what we already have, His complete forgiveness. Indeed, this is a time of refreshing. mommapbs |

Mommapbs, is this your belief: If one has accepted Jesus as Savior(believes) and sins, those sins are automatically forgiven? Is it your belief that you never have to repent again? Is it your belief that a believer's sin is different from an unbelievers sin? "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?" WalkingTalkingBible |

4 | Sin in the life of a believer? | John 13:10 | BradK | 121117
WTB, If I may interject here:-),Colossians 2:13 provides ample reply: "When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions," (see also, Col.3:13, Eph. 4:32) As to Romans 6:1, most certainly verse 2 is the reply, "May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?" Reading the entire context of the chapter provides us as believers the understanding of us being united with Him in His death, burial, and resurrection. Note verses 10 and 11: "For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus." Contrary to what you are proposing ( and I think I do understand), the biblical teaching is that Christ has paid the complete penalty for our sin. If we must do anything further, i.e. repent, then I do not see that His payment was sufficient! Note Hebrews 10:12, 18: "but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God," "Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin." The sacrifice of Christ on the cross was wholly sufficient for my sins as well as those of the world. If I have to do anything to further merit His forgiveness, then Christ must go back to the cross of necessity- something that is impossible! Do I not "In Him (we) have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace?" Chose to believe it or not, my sister, But I walk by faith, not sight:-) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
