1 | Mary's annoint precede Lazarus ressurec? | John 11:2 | iktoose | 177109
John 11:2 seems to suggest that Mary's annointing of Jesus (John 12:3) preceded the ressurection of Lazarus. What confuses me is that the event depicted in John 12:3 actually took place only 6 days before the Passover as evidenced in John 12:1. A similar event is also depicted in Matt 26:7, which occurred 2 days before the Passover. Mattew's account is slightly different in that the woman (no name mentioned) poured the perfume on Jesus' head vice His feet (which is John's account). My questions are: (1) Did the annointing precede the Lazarus ressurrection? (2) Are these annointing events (Matt 26:7 and John 12:3) two separate events? iktoose |

Scripture ... Matt 26:1-13, Mark 14:1-8, Luke 7:36-50, John 11:2, 12:1-8 ... God's day to you, iktoose, When you want to know if events recorded in several places or not it is important to see was is the same and different. Just because they are different, doesn't meean they are ... it is written from the author's point of view, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. I think the timing of the anointings of Jesus, as well as the decription of the woman leads me to think they are ddifferetn events, excpet for Matthew and Mark. Study all the passages to see what you think. Mary may have annionted Him more than once. S |

3 | Mary's annoint precede Lazarus ressurec? | John 11:2 | jlschock | 177137
Jesus' reply is the same in Matthew and Mark but in Luke it is different. But just because two autors give account of the same event differently does not neccesarly mean that they were infact two events or just because two authors give the same account of a story doesn't mean that there were other details that happened at the same time that the author left out. John 21:25 says that Jesus did many things that were not written down. I agree with searcher56 they may be two seperate events or she could have annointed Jesus more than once or it is an example of 2 different ways to tell the same event. John 11:2 could be used to prove that Lazarus ressurrection happened after the annointing but it could also be a verse to give the reader more detail. I don't think that it is as important the order of these two events as it is that Mary who is brother is Lazarus is the one who annointed Jesus' feet. |

John 20:30-31 was the verse that I was looking for instead of John 21:25 It is very simulair to John 21:25 but adds "but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name." Sorry I didn't have it before. Joanna :) |
