1 | First in a tomb - important? | Luke 23:53 | Mommapbs | 79043 | ||
Greetings Searcher - thanks for your reply! As I have been mulling this over, I came across these verses: 'The priest who is the highest among his brothers, on whose head the anointing oil has been poured and who has been consecrated to wear the garments, shall not uncover his head nor tear his clothes; nor shall he approach any dead person, nor defile himself even for his father or his mother;Lev 21:10-11 Psalm 16:10 "For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol; Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo (see) decay." "And he took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had ever lain." Luke 23:53 Since Jesus is our Great High Priest, does it seem feasible that these verses provide the reason that His body was placed in a "clean" or never-used tomb? mommapbs |

Hi mommapbs, I appreciate your comparison of Luke 23:53 and Psalm 16:10. To complete the comparison for Great High Priest may I suggest Hebrews 10:21. The NASB reads "great priest" and the NKJ "High Priest". So maybe you can agree with me on "Great Priest"? Hebrews 10:21, "and since we have a *Great *Priest over the house of God,..." Psalm 16:10, "For You will not abandon my sould to Sheol; Nor will You allow Your *Holy *One to see (undergo) decay." For the verse in Luke I would go further in the passage to Luke 24:5, "Why do you seek the living One among the dead?" The NKJ renders it "What do you seek the living among the dead?" I would suggest "Living One". Luke 24:5c, "Why do you seek the *Living *One among the dead?" So in our comparisons of these passages we see the Holy One, the Living One, and the Great Priest. From the heart, Ray |
