Greetings Christian Marine! Are you a United States Marine? I have tried to read the "Left Behind" Series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins but I wasn't really able to get into it.. I'm more interested in Frank Peretti's novels. :-) But even though these are works of fiction, I believe that the Spirit can use these books to spread the Gospel. Never before have I seen what could be called "Christian fiction" dominate both the Christian and worldwide Bestseller lists at the same time! And I believe that that is a good thing, since there is a subtle but Christian message behind the story in those books. The Lord Jesus wants us to make use of everything that is given to us (Luke 16:9) so that we may be alert in spreading His message by all means possible, even by 'shrewd' means. And there are quite a few of those books now! So, in retrospect, I would conclude that it is a great idea to author novels of fiction that are written for the purpose of containing a subtle Christian message behind them. And in this way, we are making use of some of the things of this world to spread His message. Blessings to you, Nolan |

Nolan, Yes! I'm a Marine in a Retired status! Just thought I'd ask. I am reading them. Very interesting and, though I am NOT a Bibical scholar, I am conversant with Scripture. My concern is that these books could lead to some unbelievers seeing them as an excuse for NOT reading the Bible. That scares me. For a Christian, I think they are a great read. For a non believer, I hope each one has a Christian steeped in the word close by to be the vehicle the Holy Spirit uses to lead them to the Lord. I teach Sunday School and have for years. I am constantly asked to lead a class on Revelations. My response is that God made it the LAST book in the Bible for a reason, we shouldn't go there until we know the REST of the Bible! I read it and use it for reference but that book is scary! All me classes are discussion so I actually learn more than the other members in them because I have to study all week for a 45 minutes discussion! In Christ's Name! |
