Hi, nathan... I always find this sort of question curious. Did you know that Cuba has eight growing seasons; that it alone could provide all of the food necessary for North American's? Did you know that India is so fertile, that it could feed the world? Why don't these countries provide all the food that they could? Because of human choice. Shall we ask that God intervene in human choice, forcing them to make use of their resources properly? Your friend doesn't really want an answer -- he wants an excuse. The only atheist that I ever heard give a truly honest explanation for their atheism was a friend of mine. He told me that he didn't believe in God because if he did, then God might obligate him to some sort of obedience.
