antichrist is not a person unless you are speaking of yourself apart from christ. remember Jesus said if you are not for him you are against him. to be against him is to be "anti" thus when we were apart from him, as Eph. says seperated from him, enemies of God..we were antichrist. Jesus completely destroy Satan on the cross and brought the power to live via the resurrection. Why do saints act as though we have a battle? We have a VICTORY! a victory of antichrist...we spend too much time looking for the mark of the beast and not the Christ who lives richly in us through His spirit. We spend too much time dwelling on the 7yrs of tribulation rather than walking in the victory already made. Get real..if what Jesus did on the cross was not powerful enough for us to live in this life why should I expect a heaven to come. | ||||||

Hi, c marengo, are you a new convert? I ask because of your zeal and thankfulness for Christ in your life! There's nothing wrong with that, in fact, I admire it. But the truth must be given to a couple of points you made in your post. You say, "antichrist is not a person unless you are speaking of yourself apart from christ." The antichrist is an actual person. Because Satan will use him to mock Jesus, he will be a man just like Jesus (except he is not God, like Jesus). He will be empowered by Satan and work miracles and signs to deceive and lure people from God. This is in the books of Daniel (7) and Revelation (13) and throughout the four Gospels. The antichrist will erect an image of himself and demand people to bow down and worship him (abomination of desolation in Matthew 24:15 and Mark 13:14). This is important to acknowledge because the very souls we are to witness to and win (or warn) will be heading for the Tribulation period if they live, and eternal separation from God if they die before the Rapture. We do have a battle. Jesus defeated Satan spiritually. He overcame everything the enemy could ever bring our way. But the devil didn't go away. Yes, we have the victory if we believe. However, we are still in this world system and are still in this flesh. As believers, we walk in faith that the enemy is defeated, because he is, but that doesn't make him stop trying to kill, to steal, and to destroy (John 10:10a). If we walk with our heads in the clouds and pretend like the devil is gone away, we walk in ignorance. We are exhorted to "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." (Ephesians 6:11) If we didn't have a battle, why would we need spiritual armour? "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7) Jesus' redemptive work on the cross took the dominion and power that man lost through sin and gives it to those who are fully committed to and accepts Him as Savior (born again). Yes, we have the victory, but we have to keep ourselves in subjection to the will of God and since we are still in the flesh and in this world system, Jesus has given us what we need to successfully stay saved until He returns for us. I am not a new believer. As a matter of fact I have been a part of the kingdom since April of 1978. I hold a liscense and ordaination from the SBC. These don't really mean much but that man has a system that I don't mind submitting to. I still don't believe in the person of the antichrist. I have a real problem with the "fear based" teaching that pervades the church today. Why do we insist on teaching people that the reason we evangelize is to have fire insurance? We are still stuck in the same mentality that the disciples had even after Jesus' resurrection, when they still were hung up on the physical attributes of "the kingdom of God". This idea is what permeates the rapture and apocalyptic teachings that exist. When Jesus speaks to his followers in Matt.24 and says to them that their generation will not pass..for some reason we don't believe him...because we are still looking for a future event. Look into human history and you will see that everything that Jesus said would happen in those guys lifetime did happen, if not would he not be a "false prophet". And HE is not a false prophet! It's hard for believers to see that the kingdom has come because they believe the "great tribulation" must come first. OF course, they don't want to be here for that, so they want to make their hasty exit out of here. Expecting Matt24 and Luke7 to be fulfilled in the future prevents them from seeing that the kingdom came in Acts 2. Jesus said "I won't drink wine wiwth you again until I drink it anew with you in the kingdom" On the day of Pentecost , they tasted wine that had never been drunk before and they toasted the king and the coming of the kingdom. The kingdom is not meat and dring, but righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. So, receiving the Holy Ghost gives us the kingdom potential to walk in the kingdom! The kingdom of God came in power! "The big, bad wolf" teaching would us believe that we go thru seven years of tribulation or escape it..."are you pre-trib, mid-trib or post-trib?"...Fact is there is "no-trib"! Only in America is the escapist theology important. Try telling believers in India, China, Russia and other parts of this globe that they will not go thru tribulation. It is a slap in the face of Christ's on words.."In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good courage, I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD!!!" John 16:33. I would love to continue..but my fingers are getting tired, maybe I will write more another time...but I would challenge anyone to look at historical records and compare with what Christ said in the gospels and line them up with other prophetic scripture...the surprising fact is that it has all taken place...WE DON'T NEED TO FOLLOW CHIRST OUT OF FEAR BUT FREEDOM..WE SHOULD SHARE THE GOSPEL BECAUSE IT BRINGS LIFE NOW ABUNDANT NOT FIRE INSURANCE..THERE IS SO MUCH MORE I WILL SHARE AT ANOTHER TIME. |

Greetings c. marengo, I gather from the thrust of your post that you would hold to a preterist view? Not to take away from your view (or it's validity), you might gain a better audience if you didn't appear to be on a diatribe?! I don't hold to such a view as you espouse- and you are within orthodoxy- but a question begs. If you don't believe in the person of antichrist, who (or what) do 2 Thess (2:3) and 1 John 2:18 refer? You say "Why do we insist on teaching people that the reason we evangelize is to have fire insurance" I don't know that we do. Who are such that are teaching this? Would you care to be a little more specific? I certainly agree that coming to Christ is more and should be than just "fire insurance". However, I'm not quite following your thought pattern. Indeed our motivation to serve Him should come out of love, not fear (Tit. 2:11-12). It may also help, to set more of a foundation for your argument so that we might better determine where you are coming from:-) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

I take no offense on anything stated by another. I'm cool with differing opinions. I will answer your question about my foundation though. I believe in the blood of Jesus as the once for all sacrifice for all my sin...yesterday, today and forever. I believe Jesus defeated Satan on the cross, completely destroyed him. I believe the kingdom of God came on the day of Pentecost and that we are in the process of living life to the fullest in Christ. I serve Christ from the position that HE has good news for a lost world. I believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I am not looking for the beast or antichrist..fact is if I am wrong, I know that I will make it through whatever happens. You see I believe in living victorously. Years ago I heard said that talk of dying for Christ was silly talk especially when all too often those who talk about such things don't live for HIM....i.e. IF YOU DON'T LIVE FOR HIM WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU'LL DIE FOR HIM.. |
