Hi, worleybird72! Jesus prayed for His disciples (and for all Believers) to the Father... He prayed that we be kept safe... He did not pray that we be removed from the world or placed in some isolated region/s... (John 17:9, 15, 20) Counter any ungodly speach, ideas, actions with fellowship in Jesus and with Jesus... study the Holy Scripture constantly, maintain a prayerful life (even while at the meetins you can simply call Jesus name repeatedly, in your mind of course as you would not want to interrupt the activities in the meeting), employ any free time serving Jesus in your local Church, and you can even speak to your pastor and ask him for permission and assistance to start a rehab group which is Bible-centered!... lastly, ask God for the wisdom and strength (James 1:5) to be able to absorb all the positive techniques and skills while rejecting all the ungodly interaction that may surface around you. Remember: "Greater is He (God) that is in you, than he (Satan) that is in the world! (1 John 4:4) God Bless! Angel |

Hi Angel, Why not bring Jesus name into the meeting? One should testify of the power of Jesus and His mercy whenever and wherever the opportunity arises. In testifying about God's goodness or allowing our light to shine (and not hide it under a bushel as the song goes) one never knows who will be led to Christ. prayon

Hi, prayon! Many social events are frequented by a variety of people with as many religious beliefs... in a situation as described by worleybird72, there is much blame-projecting, unaccountability, and fear/antagonism against anything that seems accusatory... there's nothing more accusatory to human beings than Christ Jesus! (Isaiah 42:1-4) It is conceivable that if the poeple in the meeting desire so, worleybird72 may introduce not only Jesus' Name but an initial and ending prayer... yet, since it is he who can best guage the situation, he can keep himself in prayer-mode throughout the meet, repeating to himself the name of the God of the Amen! (Ultimately, that could prove to be a catalyst to an open manifestation of Christ, in the group, which will certainly change the heart and mind of as many as humbly open themselves to Him! (Luke 23:33-43) God Bless! Angel |

Hi Angel, Very true but I didn't mean to 'preach' the name of Jesus at the meetings. What I was referring to give God the glory whenever possible. For instance "Hi my name is ---- and Thanks to God I am free from narcotics". or "Because of the strength God gave me I am free of narcotics" You are right - to just walk in and preach could lead to problems. prayon |

Hi, prayon! That is an excellent way in which God could be introduced... the Holy Spirit may move others (perhaps those who are thirsty for the true "Freedom") and if not within the larger group a smaller group could gather to pray together or study Scriptures... God Bless! Angel |

I just wish more people would introduce Him into conversations and not worry what the other people think! prayon

Hi, prayon! The problem is that many profess but few stand... Jesus said that anyone who would be ashamed of Him in front of man, He would be ashamed of him/her in front of His Father, in Heaven (Mark 8:38)... however, many wish to be "politically correct" and they avoid any issue that would testify that they are of Christ... We are not called by Jesus to shove testimonials or Scripture down anyone's throat... so we must be amiable in the way we present ourselves... this means that we must always gauge the environment/person that we are engaging in order to not create chaos/discord instead of enlightenment and hope! ...and I do not worry about getting Him into the conversation... for every Christian, this is nothing more than second nature... it is like getting up in the morning (we do not think about what to do, we simple go through a sequence of events that requires little or no alteration); Jesus is not something we put on but something we put in... we carry Him along wherever we go! God Bless! Angel |
