1 | Resurrection on Saturday v/s Mark 16:1 | Mark 16:1 | EdB | 238849
You need to rethink this situation remembering that a Jewish day ran from 6pm through midnight and through to 6PM of the next day. Thus a Jewish sabbath would begin at 6 PM on our Friday and end at 6 pm on our Saturday. So if the women waited until after the Sabbath which would include both our Friday and Saturday they would have had to wait until Saturday after 6 PM. Scripture says it was morning so that leaves their Saturday morning or our Sunday morning. Confusing but lay it out on paper showing the Jewish day 6PM to PM and the our day 12 midnight to 12 midnight. |

Thank you for your comment, I have considered all the different cultural rules regarding the day and night, but my question is assuming Jesus resurrection on Sabbath morning (as the starting of the second half of that Sabbath). A possible answer is that there were two Sabbath in place, one the normal one (according God's Law) and the other a ceremonial one (according Moses Law), and it was the ceremonial one that fits on Sunday. Then the women visited the tomb on Sunday, but maybe Jesus was already resurrected on Saturday.
3 | Resurrection on Saturday v/s Mark 16:1 | Mark 16:1 | EdB | 238868
I am not understanding your question or comments. Generally it is thought Jesus was crucified right before the Jewish Sabbath. That would be our Friday. At 6 on our Friday the Jewish Sabbath day Saturday would start. Then at midnight our Saturday would start. The Jewish Sabbath would run through Saturday until 6 PM at that time it would be the Jewish Sunday. At midnight on our Saturday it would turn to Sunday also. So when the women went to the grave it would be Sunday morning for both the Jew and gentile. Now there are many people and I'm one of them that believe Jesus was actually crucified on our Thursday which would also have been a Ceremonial Sabbath or THE Sabbath followed by the weekly Jewish Sabbath. That has been discussed at length on this forum in the box to right click advance Search then type in Thursday Sabbath in the box titled use these words and click enter. That will get you to a few threads where this has been discussed at length. |
