1 | Are you convinced? | Mark 16:10 | Ray | 54688
I was comparing Scriptures tonight and was reminded of how Mary obeyed Jesus and went to His brethren to tell them that she had seen Him. I was reminded that Jesus reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe Mary who had seen Him. Mark 16:9, "Now after He had risen early on the first day of the week, (He) first appeared to Mary Magdelene, from whom He had cast out seven demons. *She went and reported to those who had been with Him, while they were mourning and weeping." John 20:17, "Jesus said to her, "Stop clinging to Me, for (I) have not yet ascended to the Father; but *go to My brethren, and say to them,..." Mark 16:6, "... you are looking for (Jesus) the Nazarene, who has been crucified." John 20:25, "...'We have seen the (Lord)!'" John 20:27, "...Reach here your finger, and see My/ hands; and reach here your hand, and put it into My side; and be not unbelieving, but believing." Mark 16:14, "...and He/ reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen Him..." My question is this: Are these comparisons noteable enough for someone to believe that Mark 15:9ff should be included in the Scriptures? From the heart, Ray |

2 | Are you convinced? | Mark 16:10 | EdB | 54764
Ray You asked in your question about Mark 15:9ff. Are you not referring to Mark 16:9. If you are I can still see problems with that scripture, but I can also see where it could be valid. Nothing in Mark 16: 9-20 is saying anything that isn't said else where. However the wording seems strange compared to the rest of the book. You bring up an interesting point about the interaction of Mary and Jesus and how it coincides with the other accounts. However this would be expected had scribes (as thought) add these verses in an attempt to fill in some missing text. How are you doing my brother? Be blessed and be a blessing EdB |

3 | Are you convinced? | Mark 16:10 | Ray | 54781
Hi EdB, Thank you for pointing out my typo error. We are indeed talking about Mark 16:9ff. You said that the wording seems strange. Can you give an example for me, because I do not see that. The paragraph at the end of Mark in my study bible sounds strange, and I don't include that. I am talking about the paragraph that is usually after verse 8 in a few later mss. and versions. "And they promptly reported all these instructions to Peter and his companions. And after that, Jesus Himself sent out through them from east to west the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation." That paragraph I would agree is different sounding and certainly appears and sounds out of place. Thanks again for your correction, and thanks for your concern about my health. I am doing fine with my medicine and everything seems to be looking good. I appreciate everyone's prayers and continuing support. You might also consider this comparison. Mark 16:11, And when they heard that *He was alive, and had been seen by her, they refused to believe it. And after that, *He appeared in a different form to two of them, while they were walking along on their way to the country. And they went away and reported it to the others, but they did not believe them either." Luke 23:11, "And these words appeared to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them. [But Peter arose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen wrappings only; and he went away to his home, marveling at that which had happened.] And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem. And they were conversing with each other about all these things which had taken place. And it came about that while they were conversing and discussing, *Jesus *Himself approached, and began traveling with them." I believe that these passages were written in order that more could come to have faith in the inspired word of God. Our God is not a God of confusion. If men have added or subtracted words, I for one believe that they will be determined, and a copy will be completed by the Holy Spirit of God that will be seen by all as being perfected. That is my opinion and hope. From the heart, Ray |

Ray I'm still not sure of your question :-(. The paragraph "And they promptly reported all these instructions to Peter and his companions. And after that, Jesus Himself sent out through them from east to west the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation." certainly does not seem to fit. However verses 16-18 Mark 16:16-18 "He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. [17] "These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; [18] they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." Seem to also carry problems. First v16 seems to also include baptism as a requirement for salvation yet no where else is that inferred to that degree. V17 seems to put more emphasis on sign manifestations than what should be left behind by Christians. Love, joy, peace, hope, patience, and etc. This has caused many abuses of the gifts of the Spirit and a lot of confusion within Christianity. While all are true our focus is not on manifestation but rather the risen Savior. V18 seems to be in contradiction to nature in that if you drink a something deadly you die if not it wasn't deadly. Poison would have been a better word choice and God doesn't make mistakes. I know about Paul and viper, and I believe if your about the Lord's work you are under divine protection and therefore exempt by miracles of the forces of nature should a need arise. I just think this passage while true is written by man rather than inspired. Again let me say nothing in any of these verses contradict anything written in the Bible and the concept of each is certainly Biblical. I just question their origin they seem to have been composed by man to fill in what he thought was missing. I think Mark 16 should read verse 9-15 then 19-20 however I believe everything within 16-18 as being scriptural I just think it is poorly stated. PS To casual readers I'm not a heretic and I truly believe in the gifts of the Spirit. Ray glad to hear you are doing well my brother!!! EdB |
