1 | Demons? Today? | Matt 8:31 | Rowdy | 109448 | ||
This is one issue I have to respond with no Bible basis specifically to support my conclusion. In my humble opinion, I put this topic in the same category with other miracles, faith healing, etc. I don't believe there are actually persons today walking around with demons taking possession of their body. I think this is possibly what is meant in Revelation by binding the Devil for 1,000 years with the 1,000 just representing this whole dispensation, between Christ's death and the end of the world. However, I don't want to give the impression of a closed mind so let's see some really absolute proof of a demon possessed person. Can they perform some supernatural act that cannot possibly be questioned as being anything else other than supernatural like that portrayed below? Mark 5:4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. Luke 8:29 For Jesus had commanded the evil spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places. Now, don't get me wrong. I know about Peter's warning in 1 Pet 5 but I don't think that means anything different demons actually taking possession of human beings. We do need to heed Peter's words and respect the Devil, very much so. But I think the Devil tempts us directly and invites us into his world and disguises the consequences. If we can see an actual demonstration of such a person being possessed, then I'll get much, much closer to believing in this practice. What do you think? Do we have any takers? Remember, keep studying and God bless. |

Rowdy, am I reading this correctly? Did you MEAN to write - "If we can see an actual demonstration of such a person being possessed, then I'll get much, much closer to believing in this practice"? Where does Scripture state such would ever cease? Surely, with the world in its present state, NOT to believe "in this practice" seems dangerous. While many have "profited" from it, and many have denied its existance, God's word promises His believers power to cast them out, heal the sick, etc. Luke 9:1, Mark 16:17 etc. Tom |
