1 | How can I obey Matthew 5:44 | Matt 5:44 | BigSlim | 9550
How can I overcome anger when someone has made efforts to hurt me and my family, and I must see this person every day, and the person has never apologozed. I keep pouring my resentment out as an offering to the Lord, but somehow I become upset again just by seeing the person.

BigSlim, Loving the person is the answer. The verse you selected is one of the toughest to obey. I am not a counsellor, just a Christian sharing some thoughts. I would advise you to seek out your pastor, or another Christian who can counsel you face-to-face. Even with that, you may get a variety of answers. Therefore, pray, asking God what He wants you to do. Have you forgiven this person? (Mat 6:14-15). Have you told the Lord you have? I think you just need to forgive once. You need to let this person go, for keeping your resentment means this person is your prisoner and you are responsible for their welfare. Have you talked to this person about your anger? Have you listened to this person? (Jam 1:19, 20). A few more verses are Pro 15:1, 29:11 and Col 1:8. Seek ways to show this person love, like the Good Samaritian, who was despised by the person who he helped. Know that many are praying for you and this person. Steve |
