Just to add a little - The reason the poor in spirit are happy is that they have the kingdom of heaven. The word poor comes from a Greek word that means "to make oneself little, to crouch." The meaning here comes from Isaiah 57:15;66:2. It describes the persons who are spiritually hungry, the opposite of self-centered complacency. The word poor is often synonymous with the people of God, in the sense of their humble dependence on Him. To be aware of your spiritual needs and to go to Christ is to know the incredible joy of being included in the kingdom of heaven. This is what Jesus means when He said; "Blessed are you the poor that have already come to Him". | ||||||
