1 | holding the light with dirty hands? | Matt 5:20 | EbnZhr | 15345
What were they watching for, those shepherds? Sheep! Did their occupation give them more legitimacy than the Rabbis in their homes or maybe the guileless Natanyahu whom Mashiach commended as a true Israali? Was the right place for this encounter in the fields or in the Bais haMikdosh Temple concider the healing which took place in the pool vis a vis the Temple. But if proper place was not in the Bais haMikdosh, then why? Maybe if I saw a brightlight in the field overhead or in the Bais haMikdosh our even in my own home I would be alert too... maybe. but I guess you are right that if a group of Angels began singing in the dark around me, I too would be awe struck aand inclined to see a greater significance even if I was not so righteous, No? Yet many of the shepherds kept the sheep flocks for the Temple officials.. these were those sheep used for sacrifices, sold within the proximity of the bais haMikdosh... sold at a profit. haMashiach was very irrate with these marketeers and actually scattered the vendors, shepherds and sheep. Thats all, but I like your post EbnZhr |

2 | holding the light with dirty hands? | Matt 5:20 | glory777 | 15358
God's blessings on you, EbnZhr- You know, that's right. There had to have been shepherds to watch over the Temple sacrificial animals, too. I never thought of that. But the text doesn't go inot detail about who's sheep they were watching, and of course do to my upbringing, I placed them out in the hills or valley near Bethlehem (did Bethlehem have a temple?), not only keeping an ear on them, but also being alert to any wolves or bear that may wander near. But weren't the shepherds considered lower class citizens? And as far as the learned, didn't Jesus prefer the ones who were unlearned and unlovable and who had the most need? I don't know that much about sheep, but I do know they aren't real clean and usually do not have a good fragrance. Did these shepherds ever have access to religious teaching? More and more questions. Who was Natanyahu? So many questions. If you can, please E-mail me. I want to know more. In all things, praise Him- Debbie |

well let's see.... Since the bais haMikdosh held the market on sacrife animals and sacrifices were offer daily that would require a hefty number per day and at different times per day. Sounds like a very big flock to me. Additionally the priesthood decided which were clean or not so clean and suitable. And when we ..I consider who could maintain a flock large enough the picture get clearer.... Not a busness for the small time entrepenur and a high demand commodity. What is the virtue of being unlearned or why would Mashiach have a preference for them? Do we not say that it is the sin and not the sinner which repels G d and was it not for the ill that he came? Does he distinguish between one and another like men or are the sins performed by some more deserving of His concideration and salvation than the sins performed by others? But who would have the most need, the self sufficent in his her walk through this world or the one humbled by circumstances? One accepts the remedy and his her fate is secured but the other's condition remains constant, blind, ill, and without hope... so to speak.. which is then has the most need? So the issue is not the need as we are all needy. What if we applied this need factor to discriminate between the US and some other third world people, who would be more needy and inusing this criteria... who would be more preferred then? The issue is receptivity... and this is by G d's doing alone.... that all may be found to be lacking and in need of His provision. He has mercy on whom He will.. according to His schedule. There is no virtue in being ignorant, as the people of the Land were... for this reason there were and are teachers... first Moshe then others even to this day. Natan under his fig tree studied, contemplated and the Mashiach spotted Him early in the day... he took note of him and later praised him. Since guile was the issue in question some surmise that Natan was reading about Yaakob.. Jacob whose many antics were guile full. So even there G d showed no preference in the expected manner... because Yaakob He love but Edom..Esau He did not. What criteria did G d use to distinguish the two? E bnZhr |
