1 | Name it and claim it?????????????? | Matt 4:3 | Shell | 25033
I have trouble with the "name it and claim it" idea. Does anyone else out there feel the same way? If this is scriptual, what am I missing?
2 | Name it and claim it?????????????? | Matt 4:3 | Emmaus | 25034
I sure have a problem with it. It sound a lot like magic to me. A manipulation of God that obigates Him to do something because of the words of your spell, even if they are His words used out of context. Sound like the devil tempting Jesus. name it and claim it and these stones will become bread, Matt 4:3. Or like Simon Magus trying to buy control of the Holy Spirit's from the apostles. Acts 8:9-19 |

3 | Name it and claim it?????????????? | Matt 4:3 | Dalprad | 25038
I have my suspicions as well. I've listened to some preach about it and have read about it. I do believe that God will provide in excess to those who truly walk in faith. If God knows you will use all of your resources for His glory why wouldn't he? I think the same applies to health etc. The bible makes clear promises that living a Godly life will lead to long life and health. All of these things I think must result from walking in faith. If you walk in faith, your words of faith will follow naturally. Speaking in faith and in line with God's word could help build your faith. And one thing I do agree with is the danger of speaking negativly. It just shows what you believe. If you say "I'll never be able to afford that", then you surely won't. Even if it is in line with God's plan for you, if you don't believe, it won't happen. I would say be very cautious of these teachers, but don't be too quick to judge those who's lives have been very blessed due to their incredible faith. I think sometimes they are so used to knowing what it is like to have so much faith and blessing, they forget what it is like to have doubts and worries. They end up coming off sounding arrogant. Just an opinion, hope it helps.

You write: "I do believe that God will provide in excess to those who truly walk in faith. If God knows you will use all of your resources for His glory why wouldn't he?" I hope that I can be as wealthy as Paul was then! "Are they servants of Christ?--I speak as if insane--I more so; in far more labors, in far more imprisonments, beaten times without number, often in danger of death. Five times I received from the Jews thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep. I have been on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my countrymen, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers on the sea, dangers among false brethren; I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure." --2 Corinthians 11:23-27 Why wouldn't God provide more resources to Paul? Was it that the apostle of God did not have enough faith? An accumulation of material things does not mean that God has blessed you: "Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten. Your gold and your silver have rusted; and their rust will be a witness against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure!" --James 5:1-3 You also write: "The bible makes clear promises that living a Godly life will lead to long life and health." You mean verses like these? "Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted." --2 Timothy 3:12 "For to you it has been granted for Christ's sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake" --Philippians 1:29 "Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you, but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation." --1 Peter 4:12-13 So why would God withhold material "blessings" and even ordain suffering among his people? To demonstrate His power and to teach us as he uses us as instruments for His glory: "Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." --Philippians 4:13 See Philippians 3:7-11 and 1 Corinthians 1:27 and Acts 7 and realize that God decrees poverty and suffering and "untimely" death (martyrdom) for the faithful quite often to further the kingdom of God on earth. The Bible soundly trounces any vestiges of "health/wealth/prosperity" teaching. --Joe! |
