1 | Why consider going to Jerusalem / Judea? | Matt 2:22 | Makarios | 27402 | ||
Greetings Steve! I believe that both Mary and Joseph were originally from Nazareth (Luke 1:26-27). Joseph was also a righteous man, and he was the "leader" of his family, deciding where to settle his family, upon their return to Israel (Matt. 2:22). And by divine guidance, he was led to choose Nazareth again, which no doubt was familiar to both him and Mary. Blessings to you, Nolan |

Well, Matthew 2:22 does say "Judea" here, and I seriously doubt that he would want to go to such an open place as Jerusalem after fleeing to Egypt.. But the Scripture says, "out of Nazareth will I call my son.." So not only did Joseph do this because he and Mary were familiar with the territory (Bethlehem and Nazareth), but he had divine guidance as well (to fulfill all prophecy). - Nolan |
