I do not come from that standpoint either however you do not have the wisdom to see this. And it is definitely not always the right time to use scripture. If a person has the wrong intentions it is not right for that person to use scripture. If a person does not have the right heart it is not good either. Scripture can be very easily twisted in these circumstances and risk going against God's work. No matter how correct Joe may have been he was unsuccessful for a very good reason. He was more concerned for words than heart. Throwing out into the world your knowledge of the Bible will make little difference. You can believe he was right, I do not. |

Still no Bible to back your statements up, eh? You wrote: "If a person has the wrong intentions it is not right for that person to use scripture." Scripture says otherwise. Were Jesus' intentions wrong to use Scripture to rebuke Satan? Were Paul's intentions wrong to rebuke the Galatian heresy by Scripture? But you think we need some fluffy, contentless warm fuzzies, just like the apostles used, right? ;) You wrote: "Scripture can be very easily twisted in these circumstances and risk going against God's work." Please show me one instance where I have twisted Scripture. Everything you are saying is contrary to the Bible, and hence WRONG. But you, like RevC, seem to already have the answers. Tell you what: show me how your Bible-less approach has ever won a cultist like RevC to Jesus Christ, and I will humbly apologize and scratch all those irrelevant verses out of Scripture. You wrote: "No matter how correct Joe may have been he was unsuccessful for a very good reason. He was more concerned for words than heart." I am so amazed that you accuse me of wanting me to be a gate-keeper for heaven because I believe the Bible, which anyone can read; and yet suddenly, YOU know MY heart. Please stop embarassing yourself, because it is you who are trying to be God here, divining my intentions (and might I mention those of RevC, who was definitely not posting as some "honest seeker of truth"). Could it have been my presentation that turned him of to the TRUTH? Or it could be this: "For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, 'I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE.' "Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, GOD WAS WELL-PLEASED THROUGH THE FOOLISHNESS OF THE MESSAGE PREACHED TO SAVE THOSE WHO BELIEVE. For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men." --1 Corinthians 1:18-25 Take that last verse to heart. By claiming any unregenerate person is where he needs to be is to call God a liar. Your cozy approach to those who deny the very nature of God and the power of the cross is not loving. I was not rude to RevC, but I was indeed direct and to the point. So again, if you have had more experience in counter-cult evangelism than I have had, please share with us your success stories by "loving [sic] them into the kingdom" without telling them the truth. You wrote: "Throwing out into the world your knowledge of the Bible will make little difference." Well, from what I have seen of your posts so far, we have little danger of that from you. And lest you start bleating how you are a "poor victim" in this, remember that it was YOU who picked a post that I made almost a year ago and appointed yourself MY teacher in how to evangelize those who promote heresy on a forum dedicated to historic, biblical Christianity. Looking over the posts here you have made so far, I see almost no references to Scripture at all. This isn't Oprah; this is StudyBibleForum.com, where we study the Bible. I welcome any Bible-based rebuke and correction you have for me; but if it is just psychological garbage rather than Scriptural truth, it isn't going to carry a lot of weight with anyone here at all. --Joe! |

Joe: Amen and Bravo! Thank you for having both the intelligence and the guts to tell it like it is -- something that certain Internet Lone Ranger self-appointed Bible experts are sadly lacking. Also, isn't it interesting that some of our fuzzy-minded thinkers claim that love is opposed to truth and justice? God is love. Therefore, according to the "logic" of these contentious and vain babblers, God is opposed to truth and justice. These people really make a lot of sense, don't they? Grace to you, kalos |
