This has been a very interesting discussion for me. I will not claim to have the right answer on any theological point as I understand some of my human state. God knows the truth and that is enough for me. Thankyou to all who contributed to this discussion. I find John a very interesting read. While reading this book it occurrs to me that sometimes it is Jesus speaking and sometimes it God speaking through Jesus and they always both agree. How wonderful is this book in establishing their love for us. Joe, I ask you, is it more important to fight for your understanding of theology; the bible, or is it more precious to lead others to having faith and following Jesus. Whatever you believe today then you need to follow for you and whatever RevC believes then he will also follow for him, and down the road your understanding may change. You are both were you need to be today. RevC thankyou for your calmness and love through out your posts. |

Greetings Coffee! My wife would like your screen name my friend! :-) You wrote: "Whatever you believe today then you need to follow for you and whatever RevC believes then he will also follow for him, and down the road your understanding may change. You are both were you need to be today." Would you say this of someone who is involved in a cult? Would you say this of someone who holds a heretical position? I have been an active proponent on this forum of making sure that we disagree with love, but false doctrine must be confronted. There have been many examples of this forum of doctrine which is so different from what Scripture teaches that it could keep someone from really knowing Christ. 2 Tim. 3:16 says, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." Two of these aspects are positive and two are negative. Two deal with doctrine (Teaching and Rebuking) and two deal with living (Training and Correcting). These must be done in love, but they must be done! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Dear Tim, Thankyou for your considerate note. Though my note was directed at Joe, you are most welcome to comment. I think you have made an excellent point, of which I agree; however, 2Tim 3:16 is more often abused than used in love. My intention towards Joe was to encourage him to be kinder rather that putting all of his energy into arguing a point; not to bring him down, as I am more than sure you are aware. I, myself, am not that great at achieving this, though I suspect if Joe has something to say in reply to my note, he will do so. Sometimes we have to trust God to show when He is ready. This scripture is often misused because we decide it is our job in our timing. I am extremely cautious about using scripture to put a point across because of the misuse I have witnessed. I will not argue with another who believes in something very strongly. If it is wrong, though not necessarily harmful to others, I fully believe that God will place something in their path. For example, if Rev C is wrong then I think God will place an event in his path. If this happens to be an encounter with Joe, then so be it. But what Rev C will remember most is the type of energy Joe reflected in the way he chose to handle the debate. If I was to turn around and be full on with you, would you remember what I said or how I treated you? If I was rude to you would it really matter to you if I was right? Or, to put it another way: a person has a browse through this forum, looking for God's love, instead finds argueing in a rather exagerated fashion. How will they view Christians? You have made an excellent point, and I could also use scriptures but I will not. You have enough intelligence to understand and to ask and to choose to disagree if your understanding is diferent. The kind of misuse I have seen of this scripture has broken churches, Christians, and especially, new Christians apart. It needs to be used very carefully with much wisdom and love. Again Tim,thank you for your thoughtful reply. I have already appreciated many of your notes. deb |

Greetings Deb! Good morning my friend! There is definitely no problem with being reminded to disagree in a loving manner. :-) I just wanted to make sure that you weren't saying that any belief is alright! There are some who believe that it is okay to believe anything as long as one is sincere. As far as Joe is concerned, I have always known him to be a gentleman in his posts. This particular thread is old, so I don't remember every post. However, if Joe 'pushes' so one, it is usually because that person is way off base when it comes to Scripture. Anyway, I've got to run some errands this morning, so God Bless! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
