Thanks for your note, the same question was asked of me. Please allow me to clarify what you're saying. Given the 2 verses: Matthew 28:19 ...into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Acts 10:48 ...baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. 1. Even though the phraseology is different, both verses state that baptism should be done UNDER THE AUTHORITY of Jesus. 2. It is wrong to conclude that Peter is instructing us to baptise in the name of Jesus only, and not in the name of the Father or Spirit. Thanks, load |

Philippians 2:6 (Amp.Version)describes Jesus as - "Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God, did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained," From reading this passaage, we might conclude that Jesus Christ embodies the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. This being so, there is NO distinction between the verses in Matthew 28:19 and Acts 10:48. When we baptize in the NAME of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit - it is correct to baptize in HIS NAME - Jesus! Since I am not a Bible scholar, this is just merely a suggested approach to reconcile these two references! |
