1 | Will Judas be on one of the thrones? | Matt 19:28 | Makarios | 16503
The fact of the matter is, Steve, that there are several who could fill this "vacant office" left by Judas. The original 11 apostles cast lots and chose Matthias. I was stating that the interpretation given by CDBJ has been given some credible support. If you hold to the theory that there were/should be only 12 apostles when the Bible explicitly states that Paul was also an apostle, then we are simply "proven wrong" by Scripture and need to acknowledge that, Steve. But Acts 1:15-26 leads us to believe that there are certain 'criteria' that must be met for the office of an apostle, stated in Acts 1:22-23. Romans 1:1 and 1 Corinthians 1:1 are among the Scriptures that I can find that support Paul's apostleship. And Paul was definitely a leader! So if the Bible clearly states that Paul was an apostle, and it does, then wouldn't this make 13 instead of 12?? Then who is it that gets to sit on that last throne vacated by Judas? Are Matthias and Paul going to play "musical chairs" to determine this? The fact of the matter is: Paul was an apostle just like the original 11. True, Matthias was chosen, but Paul was also chosen! And Paul was not chosen by "lot", but He was chosen by Jesus Christ Himself, being apprehended on the road to Damascus. So you ask: Why not Matthias? Why not James? Both of those definitely have a legitimacy to this last throne of "leadership" (Rev. 4:4), but if you are going to limit the number of apostles to only 12, then I choose Paul as being the one to fill the "office" left vacant by Judas since the entire rest of the NT mentions Paul but fails to mention Matthias. However, the Bible is clear that the total number of apostles did not stop at 12, since Paul is clearly an apostle! Barnabas and Apollos could possibly fit the "job qualifications" as well. Nolan |

Nolan, it will be interesting to see who is on the 12th throne, when they are seated. Steve
