1 | Matthew 19:24 is a puzzle for me ? | Matt 19:24 | Ken John | 108728
Matt 19:24 puzzles me as it would seem that the rich cannot enter "the Kingdom of God" so what must they do ? Jesus doesn't seem to condemn being wealth as long as one believes in Christ, not so ?

Ken, I apologize for the majority of this forum. Most here are unlearned. The verse you question is very simple. The gate that one had to enter in through to the city was "nicknamed" eye of the needle because it was so narrow that anyone approaching had to stop, unload his camel, walk the camel through the gate than repack his camel. Jesus was stating that the rich must unload their attachments to this life in order to have a chance at eternal life. He enforces the difficulty because as we know some "things" are hard to let go of. Blessed Be |

Greetings Kichmon! What is the source of your information my friend? This interpretation has several problems attached to it. 1) There is no historical evidence that such a gate actually existed. 2) It makes the builders of the city out to be absolute morons, since they didn't build the gate big enough for camels to get in and out with unloading them. 3) Finally, the passage doesn't say that it was 'difficult' to get through the gate. The passage uses the word 'impossible'. :-) The passage makes much more sense in the traditional understanding that it is impossible for a camel to go through an eye of a needle. In the same way, it is impossible for the rich to get into Heaven - by human effort. Why the distinction? Look at Jesus' response in v. 26! He makes a distinction between men and God. It is impossible for men, but not for God. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Thanks for your answers to my question and I was delighted to learn something about this gate "nicknamed" eye of the needle becuse I had been told that before today. Now brother Tim Moran has sown doubt in my mind, so can I believe anything you tell me or must I continue to pray and trust God to lead me to the right answer. After nearly 18 years of walking with Christ I must admit losing faith in man. Blessings, KJ |
