1 | Can tares become Christians? | Matt 13:24 | CDBJ | 157245
Greetings iktoose, I think for one to say that tares, or weed, can become Christians would be carrying the context of the parable a little far. In all reality God can do just about anything that he chooses. Luke 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. The fact is that the parable of the wheat an tares didn’t come to a halt until the day of harvest. Matthew 13:24-30 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: [25] But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. [26] But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. [27] So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? [28] He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? [29] But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. [30] Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. While there is yet time one could say that the tares or weeds could become Christians, as here stand I but by the grace of God. Many, many Christians have spent hours in church services before they finally trusted in the finish work of Jesus the Christ. Here is a poem that I wrote that you might enjoy. I'm not sure how the format will look on the forum? THE WHEAT AND THE TARES The Lord spoke a parable, of the wheat and the weeds. He plants only true believers, but the Devil sows some seeds. Let them both grow up together, you’re unable to discern; But in the final time of harvest, the weeds are marked to burn. The Angels are the reapers, who will cut the harvest floor. They’ll gather all the wheat inside, for the Lord whom they adore. There are those within our ranks, that aren’t what they seem to be. They live a self-righteous prank, and it’s hard for them to see. God’s Word declares I know my sheep, and who is of my flock. By the time they learn, it’s an act they played, it’ll come as quite a shock. It’s strange to me how some can claim, that Christ has saved their soul, Then turn and curse the very Name, of the one who made them whole! They use God’s Name in a shameful way, to emphasize their speech. For those who tempt their fate that way, this poem’s meant to reach. Is your life in tune with the Lord each day, in things that you pursue? Is he close at hand; do you stop and pray; are His blessings oft renewed? Do you love His Word; do you share His burden, for a lost and dying soul? Do you hope for Him to return real soon, does your life for Him extol? Is the future clear on your eternal state, have you a promise you can claim? If not I pray, before too late, that you would trust in Jesus’ name. If the Lord is not in your life right now, and you’re ignorant of these needs, It’s sad to say on your last day; you’ll be numbered with the weeds! Have a great day, CDBJ |

2 | Can tares become Christians? | Matt 13:24 | iktoose | 157248
Hi CDBJ, Thanks for answering my questions. I enjoyed your poem. Actually I read it from another posting. Some follow up questions for all forum participants are: Do you think it is reasonable to assume that the wheat being God's chosen people and the tares doomed people? From the parable I sense that we cannot do a whole lot about the tares except being aware of them (being harmful). Do you think it is reasonable to believe that we have tares in our churches? Actually this question does not help individual church as we start questioning our fellow believers (i.e. Is my elder a tare?) Is it possible that perhaps the tares are not aware of themselves of what they are? These folks might have been hypnotized or brainwashed and think they are serving the true living God. iktoose |

3 | Can tares become Christians? | Matt 13:24 | CDBJ | 157255
Hi iktoose, The answer to your question is an unequivocal maybe! There are no tares in The Church, the body of Christ; but there are many tares in a church, an assembly of people, of numerous denominations. You stated, “From the parable I sense that we cannot do a whole lot about the tares except being aware of them (being harmful).” The only way the weeds are harmful is if they absorb all of the nourishment that is there for the wheat. If the wheat has a good root structure the weeds can grow up right next to the wheat and the wheat isn’t bothered. One of the big problems come when those outside of Christ fix there eyes on the darnel, or weeds and assume that they are the wheat. There is a definite visual difference in the seeds or fruit that comes forth and true believers are told how to spot them. Matthew 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. I have always tried to encourage personal testimony when ever there is a group gathering and as a result the weeds are usually pretty easy to spot. There is a missing ingredient in the testimony of the weeds, and true believers don’t have to ask what it is. From the point of finding out, what appeared to be wheat but is actually darnel, the only thing that can fix it is the Lord and the gospel message. 1 Cor. 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. The previous verse, coupled with the next verse, gives the answer to your question. Matthew 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. The tares or weeds need to be a new creation in order to become wheat; they won’t make it as tares. Galatians 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. The tares can play wheat all they want but it won’t make them wheat; it’s only when the Lord starts them over as a new creature that they can become wheat or Christians, as it were. 2 Cor. 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. The last part of your question, “Is it possible that perhaps the tares are not aware of themselves of what they are? These folks might have been hypnotized or brainwashed and think they are serving the true living God.” 2 Cor. 4:3-4 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: [4] In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. Those that are tares don’t have the “assured confidence” of eternal, which is in Christ Jesus. 1 John 5:10-11 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. [11] And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Have a great day, knowing that the best is yet to come, CDBJ |
