1 | Is prophecy dead? | Matt 11:13 | whyndell | 1639
It depends on what you mean by "prophesy" if it is a word that is to be taken as verbally from God- therefore the contents of those words are to be adhered to as we do Scripture- you are going to be hard pressed to prove your position from the Word of God. By the way John was an Apostle, chosen by the Lord to write Scripture, so your first defense falls, because 99 percent of the miracles and prophesy in the NT is by an apostle. Though normative for them in the office, does not mean normative for the church, or later generations. Like all adherents to the "so called" charismatic movement they have no Scriptual basis for how they operate their gifts, sense no clear definition or declaration is given as to how each and everyone was performed by the individual. The case of the modern "false tongues", every and I mean every indication in the NT is these were "earthly languages", never babbling unintelligble noise, yet every gift of so-called tongues today is nithing but gibberish. Speaking from experience since I have heard probably 6 to 7,000 people speak them, and not all at once, including myself who through the grace of God was delivered from the false holy ghost revival. As to heavenly pray language well it does not exsist and never did- 1 cor 12:7, Paul clearly states these gifts were for the "common" good never to build oneself up spiritually or communicate with God on a private level. The modern Cahrismatic movement, the Third Wave, etc, are "mysticism" in christian "sheep colthing". I do not mean to be so blunt- but thats the facts. Do I believe God speaks to His people - most assuredly- in the Word, in response to our prayers, and yes I have seen people raised from sickness to health, with the aid of doctors and without- though the Lord is working in both situations. But I have also seen loved ones slip into eternity- even with our prayers- but even there He works miracles in our minds and heart. So yes our God is a God of miracles- but no the stuff I hear come from those who have fallen into the false "holy spirit" that started approx. 35 years ago. Standing for our Saviour Jesus Christ, who by the Eternal Spirit has redeemed us. Whyndell |

3 | Is prophecy dead? | Matt 11:13 | whyndell | 1767
When they speak in tongues what language do they spesk? This is the only legimate use of tongues. Does everyone in the gathered assembly speak English? if they do then there is no reason for tongues. Re-read 1 cor 12-14. Tongues are not a sign of spirituality, and assuredly not a sign one has the Holy Spirit. The false doctrine there is a second "filling" is the cause of all the confusion regarding this issue. If this doctrine were legitimate the Apostle paul would have addressed the issue openly. Yet he does not, nor another writer of the NT. Eph 1.13-14 clearly answer the issue of the Holy Spirit, salvation is the only thing necessary. Even here Paul never says anything about a "higher level" of exprience. So I know this seems insensitive, you have never spoke inn tongues, tongues was always without exception an earthly language. As to prophesy,is never fortelling events, nor delivering a new personal message from God to the Church, that ceased when the Lord had the writers of the NT complete the letters He wanted written to address the churches needs and the needs of belivers. So if they are saying thus says the Lord they are in grave error and need to cease the "fake" or "false" activity. I do not debny the salvation of charismatics, as long as they have responded to the call of God. Whyndell |

4 | Is prophecy dead? | Matt 11:13 | charis | 1771
Dear Whyndell, I have read the scriptures you proffered, and I offer the closing comments Paul gave us, "Therefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues. But let all things be done properly and in an orderly manner." 1 Corinthians 14:39-40 NASB. I claim no superior spirituality, nor a 'higher level' than another man in Christ. I have simply believed and experienced that which is written in the Bible. I have seen fruit and edification of the body of Christ. I battle against over-emotionalism, and study the Word earnestly. You accuse all such believers as 'fake' and 'false.' Well, all I can say is that you have not met 'all,' so save your prejudice. One question, why the fuss about tongues? I don't believe I have made it an issue, or claimed spiritual superiority. Some may, but they aren't me. By the way, if all in my church were to speak English tomorrow morning, it would indeed be in tongues. My church, with few exceptions, is Japanese. I live in Yokohama. :-) As to the cessation of revelation and the emasculation of the 5-fold ministry, please give me scripture that clearly speaks. I do thank you for granting salvation to us, though we may be deluded or liars. Peace be upon you in Christ Jesus. charis |
