Bill, Thank you for your answers. It is clear that you have studied and understand what you are talking about. That is what I am trying to do, understand what I am talking about. I agree with your belief on this subject of the New Covenant, that it applies to us as well as to Isreal, I am just trying to understand why I believe it rather than just saying that's what I believe. There are so many times in the Bible, especially with Paul, that something is taken from the O.T. and applied to us, that seems to me is specfic for application to the Jews, yet Paul applies to Christians and I get confused. I understand that Paul was inspired in what he wrote and that much of what he wrote he received by revelation from Jesus, and so I accept it and believe, but I still want to understand it. There are statements in the Bible like 2 Cor. 1:20 and some others that seem to me to complicate matters sometime (I think I said what I meant to say there). Another example: in the O.T. God promised Israel that if they obeyed Him in the promised land, that He would provide for them peace, prosperity, and health. Obviously they did not obey and missed out on the promises. I think the reason for doing this was that the rest of the world would see Israel's God and want to worship Him also and then Israel would missionaries like they were supposed to be in the first place. But in the N.T. we only get these things "if it is God's will". If the new covenant is under grace, and we recieve all things in Christ, all the promises are yes in Him, why is that only applied to salvation, peace and joy, and not prosperity and health also. God's promise to the righteous man is long life full of blessing. I am righteous in Christ, 2 Cor. 5:21, should not these things freely come upon me by grace? I am not of the health and wealth camp, I am just trying to understand, so please don't label me. Apparently I am having trouble rightly dividing the word of truth. later...wdc |

2 | Blessings IN Christ | Matt 10:5 | Bill Mc | 12778 | ||
Dear WDC, One last note. I'm not trying to trivialize your question but, what would you rather have - a long physical life IF (key word) you keep ALL the commands OR an eternal life found only by faith in Jesus Christ apart from works? Christ came to give us life and life more abundant. But it is only found IN Him. It is not something He dispenses apart from Himself. It is Himself. Christ told the Pharisees (who were DOING everything right and their best to keep the law), "You search the Scriptures (OT) because you think that that's where life is. But they (OT Scriptures) all point to ME. But you won't come to Me." They were too wrapped up in self-righteousness to see their need for Christ. He doesn't just give us life, He IS our life. Paul said (not verbatim), 'The life I live in the body, I live BY FAITH (not works) in the Son of God who loved and gave Himself up for me. I no longer live but Christ lives IN ME.' See these verses - Rom 8:32; Eph 1:3; Phil 4:19; 2 Pet 1:3. God has given us Christ Himself through the indwelling Spirit. What more do we need? In Christ, Bill Mc |

Hi Bill MC, What more do we need than to know that we have been raised up with Christ and to keep our minds set on the things above. I've appreciated your comments here and agree that as you say,"He IS our life." Personally, I capitalize those words differently. I would write Colossians 3:3, "When Christ, who is our Life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory." And I agree, see Eph 2:6 and Eph 1:3 |
