Bible Note: Bill, Thank you for your answers. It is clear that you have studied and understand what you are talking about. That is what I am trying to do, understand what I am talking about. I agree with your belief on this subject of the New Covenant, that it applies to us as well as to Isreal, I am just trying to understand why I believe it rather than just saying that's what I believe. There are so many times in the Bible, especially with Paul, that something is taken from the O.T. and applied to us, that seems to me is specfic for application to the Jews, yet Paul applies to Christians and I get confused. I understand that Paul was inspired in what he wrote and that much of what he wrote he received by revelation from Jesus, and so I accept it and believe, but I still want to understand it. There are statements in the Bible like 2 Cor. 1:20 and some others that seem to me to complicate matters sometime (I think I said what I meant to say there). Another example: in the O.T. God promised Israel that if they obeyed Him in the promised land, that He would provide for them peace, prosperity, and health. Obviously they did not obey and missed out on the promises. I think the reason for doing this was that the rest of the world would see Israel's God and want to worship Him also and then Israel would missionaries like they were supposed to be in the first place. But in the N.T. we only get these things "if it is God's will". If the new covenant is under grace, and we recieve all things in Christ, all the promises are yes in Him, why is that only applied to salvation, peace and joy, and not prosperity and health also. God's promise to the righteous man is long life full of blessing. I am righteous in Christ, 2 Cor. 5:21, should not these things freely come upon me by grace? I am not of the health and wealth camp, I am just trying to understand, so please don't label me. Apparently I am having trouble rightly dividing the word of truth. later...wdc |
