Mathew, It is my feeling that you are mixing Law and Grace and thereby confusing our "imputed righteousness" with our practical outworking as James is refering to:-)[Gal.2:21] You ask "Will grace "alone" keep you in right standing with God?" Yes! Eph.2:8-9, Titus 3:5 ,2 Cor. 5:21. Our righteousness is either based upon Gods' sovereign grace or our works. If it's our works then I have something in which to boast. "“Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.” 1 Cor. 1:31 Speaking The Truth In Love, BradK |

BradK, Maybe Im misunderstanding you about this statement. You said "Our righteousness is either based upon Gods sovereign grace or our works. If it's our works then I have something in which to boast." You quoted 1Cor.1:31 to back this up. Can we boast that we are justified by works? God. Rom 4:2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has a boast; but not before God. 2Co 11:30 If it is right to boast, I will boast of the things of my weakness. Eph 2:8 For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, Eph 2:9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. However I can see were your coming from, after reading Romans chapter 4. The scripture that you gave me to prove that we are saved by grace alone I agree with. But we are saved by faith in grace. When I asked if grace alone keeps us in rightstanding with God. I more less was refuring to christian character, are walk with God. But I ran across this scripture also. Rom 4:6 Even as David also says of the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness without works, I guess Im kinda confused now. Im wondering if a person is saved can he backslide. God shows mercy to whomever he choses to show mercy. And if he choses us, and not the other way around. Then I must beleive that his word wont come back void, and we are truly saved. Why should a person even try to walk in newness of life, if God will show mercy to whomever he will. Does the bible say we have a better chance if we walk a christian walk? Are my chances just as good if I receive Christ and do all the lustful things i want? MaTT |

Mathew, Thanks for your response. Possibly you could clarify for me specifically what you are confused about? That would help me to be very specific in my response. You state "Im wondering if a person is saved can he backslide." Based upon the NT, I would say no. The term backslider is not used with reference to NT believers! We can certainly be carnal and not 'walk in the Spirit' as Gal. 5:16 commands us, or we can walk contrary to it. (Note Eph.4:17-22). In short, we can reckon ourselves to be dead to God, and alive to sin- contrary to Rom.6:11. Consider Heb. 4:15-16,we can come boldly to the throne of grace in time of need! In my estimation, our time of need is almost constant:-) Remember, that God doesn't leave our faith or walk to speculation or chance! It is grounded in the immutable character of God, and His precious Word. A loving God doesn't leave His children with uncertainty, but promises based upon His faithfulness (1 Thess. 5:24). 4 | OT Laws - still apply today? | Lev 20:9 | Mathew | 85977 | ||
BradK, I have always come from the beleif that a person should "work" out his own "salvation" in fear and trembling...Phi 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Question1.Why should we work out are salvation in fear and trembling if it is a free gift? Whats there to fear? I believe that God searches the inward parts of every man. Prov.24:20 shows that even evil men have once had a candle. But this candle is put out. I beleive this candle is the law of God written on every mans heart. Pro 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life; Pro 20:27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly. Pro 24:20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out. Sounds like people who were once elightened by God himself according to Prov.20:27 are now losing this light that once was in them. according to Rev 18:23 The light from a lamp will never shine in you again. The voice of a bridegroom and bride will never be heard in you again. For your merchants were the important people of the world, and all the nations were deceived by your witchcraft. Question2:Do you beleive that the light thats put out is the life and rational thinking of man, even unto death? Or are they christians who have turned from God? Question3:Can a persons heart be hardened once they are born again? And once we are born again do we still have free will to chose which master we serve? Im only asking these questions to see if constantly judging myself by the word of God, so that God wont have to judge me is what Im suppost to be doing.1Co 2:15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged by no one. 1Co 2:16 For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ. I beleive that I have the mind of Christ knowing all things good and evil. And to discern even spiritual things like knowing that even hating my brother is murder. If we dont judge ourselves, than wont God have to? Whoever would like to reply to any of these questions or statments I would like to hear what light you have to offer. MaTT |
