The people of Israel were to be characterized by outward, physical differences from the nations around them. That's basically the reason for both this command and circumcision. So to answer the question, it was for all tattoos. For Christian application, you need to ask the question: Am I doing this to be like unbelievers? This is not just for tattoos, but for anything we do in life. We are called to be nonconformists to this world. (Rom 12:1-2) Steve |

Meaning Christians should not get tattoos at all? Even as a means of decoration, such as like earrings? Just because you like the way they look? What about tattoos you have from before becoming a Christian? Also, how should one respond to unbelieving friends who want to get one for decoration, or in memory of someone? | ||||||

Lets remember that in leviticus 19:28 , 'You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD. Lets remember that they are worshipping other gods with their, cuttings and tattoos. I would be under the impression that if one could bring glory to god with a tattoo, then with all do respect do so.Not to challenge your point of view of course.
