1 | Wise Christian spending? | Lev 19:18 | justme | 140136 | ||
MJH: China is one of hundreds of countries I will mention. People earn 25 to 50 cents an hour! Would this not be one of the hundreds of slave labor countries, that WalMart uses to supply us with substandard products, and that have cost the USA over a million jobs so far. Do we not owe our fellow Americans workers the kindness to but American made goods when possible?y American made I include Canada, Mexico, and ever Central America. Any thoughts? justme |

I am not the best person to speak to on these things. But if in China, 50 cents can buy you food for a day, then 50 cents an hour is a lot. If 50 cents can't buy you a gum ball, then it is slave labbor. I am not familur with the economy in China. Simply comparing with American Dollars in a seperate culture and economy doesn't work. For example. My mother-in-law has a home worth about 40,000 dollars in a small town in Upper Penisulla Michigan. The same home in the Chicago Suburbs would cost some 250,000 dollars. (And she has a natural waterfall in her back yard.) She makes less than people in Chicago, but the economy in Upper Michigan is far different. I do not think you will find scriptures to make a political point about Walmart, or any other company in the USA that is successful. MJH |

MJH Thank you! That is my point exactly you can't compare income or expenses you have to know what it takes to live in the area. Your example of Upper Michigan is excellent. You can live there for far less than in Chicago. If you made Upper Michigan wages in Chicage you would nearly starve. However if you made Chicago wages in Upper Michigan you would be living high on the hog. Yet neither has more disposable income than the other. EdB |
