1 | Years of Silence? | Mal 4:6 | Makarios | 44899 | ||
Greetings Mommapbs! I know that the events immediately preceeding Samuel was the closure of a time that had experienced a 'silence' or rarity when it came to visions and prophecy (1 Sam. 3:1). But beyond that, I can only think of the time of the Babylonian exile that there was such a 'silence' from God. While it is true that no inspired prophet arose during these 400 years (between the testaments), much happened during this time. Alexander the Great conquered the Persian Empire and helped to bring the Greek culture and influence to Palestine. It is believed that Alexander dealt kindly with the Jews. After a series of generals ruled in Alexander's stead, the Septuagint was written, which helped revolutionize "Bible" translation up to that point. Blessings to you, Makarios |

Thanks Makarios. It was interesting to me that you refered to the three empires what I have heard symbolized in Rev. 13:2 as The Babylonians (Lion) The Greeks (Leopard) and the Persians (Bear). Indeed, God is not silent! He who has an ear, let him listen! Watching and waiting (and listening!)with you! Mommapbs PS:Can we compare this inter-testament time period with Israel today? A nation occupied and oppressed vs a true Nation State (occupied by Palestinians and still oppressed by world opinion!) A persecuted nation vs a persecuted "people." worship of God on their terms (see the accounts of the kings where the high places were allowed to remain and also the worship of the Samaritains) vs a desire to return to worshipping God as HE prescribed as evidenced by the Temple Insitute today looking for Messiah as promised vs still looking for Messiah as expected I'm still working on this. . . do you have any observations to suggest? |
