1 | May we claim rewards for tithing? | Mal 3:10 | rdarden1 | 205575
Upon closer examination of Malachi 3:10 on testing GOd with our tithes we should understand that tithes was also a vow Jacob made to God in his journey before meeting with Esau. This vow applies to all descendants of Jacob, which Christians are not. Christians are followers and descendants through faith in Christ who is in the order of Melchizadek. We are not bound by Jacobs vow. Whatever we give should be out of faith. I am possitive that the Spirit of God would work more powerfully through his believers if we would give according to the needs we see around us rather than the local buildng fund of our church. When there are special needs like sending off teams to foreign lands than we should be willing to give generously but not to fund lighting and A/C or even salaries. I have seen many ministers who preach according to what the "stockholders" in the church say. If the ministers are not paid by the church except for basic needs then they are not beholden to the big givers opinions.

Hi rdarden1: Sounds like you said, we as Christians should not Tithe, is that right? Not to be smart about it, but how far does your paycheck go each week, with all of the needs you see all around you? Is he working powerfully through you? I do see your point though,I also agree with alot of it. But look at the whole context, if you understand how it all worked, then it doesn't matter if the Church gets the tithe, it doesn't go for the things you object to. The Tithes were to be in the storehouse of the Temple, for the POOR, WIDOWS, ORPHANS. GOD was supplying food to those, that did not have a way to get it themselves. As you see in the context of the issue of tithes, GOD was speaking to the whole Nation. GOD said bring ALL the Tithes. IMHO, The Churches of today are responsible for this work, they are the representatives of GOD, to the City's they are in. God says they are cursed for NOT Tithing. So on who does the Curse fall if we don't tithe. It all depends on HOW FINE a LINE you want to draw. TIM'S Church is a Prime example of what a Church Should be doing , can we imagine if all of the Churches in any given City, (GOT TOGETHER) and did the same thing. Why do Churches always operate separately? MALACHI 3: 8-11 8) Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9) Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, (EVEN THIS WHOLE NATION) 10) (BRING YE ALL THE TITHES INTO THE STOREHOUSE.), that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. 11) And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. I thnk we're on the same page. While the churches efforts are to be applied to the needy among us, I very rarely see as much funds being used for those purposes than to get larger buildings, better bands and singers, higher power evangelists and so on. The issue is more about the missuese of funds than the willingness to give. We are to give sacrificially when the need is there but churches today have come up with more ways to spend the money given than what was originally intended. In order to pay for these "porkbarrel" religeous programs, scriptures are used out of context to enforce why we should give to them. Instead of giving to my congregation, my wife and I make sure we take care of her elderly parents, use funds towards the children classes we teach, and will freely give to the person on the street corner. I do not doubt for a minute where our hearts are in this matter but it would seem that many do not give to the need around them because they gave to the church. It has become an excuse not to help and be involved in our neighborhoods. In a certain churhc I used to be a part of my wife and I gave well above 10 percent each week and then another 20 times our weekly pledge in a summer month in order to "reach out to the owrld" only to find that the money lined the pockets of greedy leaders in affiliated churches. I would have been happy to see it go for our own church to meet needs there but that was not the case. Now we make sure what we give is done out of willingness and faith according to how God has blessed us. Our giving is a freewill offering and not accountable to any church financial officer.

I fully understand what, and why you do it the way you do. I personally think of it this way, where 2 or more are gathered in MY name, there will I be in the midst of them. Does that constitute a church? If you and your wife agree as touching anything, Does that include your Tithe? We as believers ARE Priests, over the things of God, they had the responsibility to distribute the Tithe out of the storehouse, to the needs of the people. If you see it not being done the way God wants, then we are to follow GOD not MEN. GOD BLESS Jim |
