1 | Who Prophesied Christs Birth? | Mic 5:2 | Lancelot777 | 118482
Well, this is my first posting, so please forgive my ignorance *grins* Anyhow, it seems to me that Christ's birth was prophesied 500 years before it happened right? By who? Who told the 3 wise men to look for that star configuration and what it meant? The three wisemen were the government scientists of the time right? Just how much do we know about the man/men who prophesied Christs coming? And what do we know of that prophecy? Thanks eh? Cheers! |

Hello Lancelot777, The prophet Micah gave the location. The scribes of Jesus' time understood this. Matthew 2:6 (ESV) " 'And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.' " Also Isaiah: Isaiah 7:14 (ESV) Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. This coincides with: Matthew 1:22-23 (ESV) All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: [23] "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel" (which means, God with us). Someone else will have to answer about the wisemen. Steve |

Thank you for the answers you've provided, could you please give me a BC date on when mathew or micah foretold these things? Is there any information on them outside of the bible? Any other records? Reason I ask? I figure if the government was up on it there must be something more than just what you've shown? (and thanks again )

Hello Lancelot777, Matthew was one of Jesus' disciples. He was quoting prophets about the coming Messiah which was fulfilled in the Lord Jesus. Micah's ministry ranged from about 735 to 710 B.C. according to Talk Thru The Bible (page 262). What other records were you looking for? Other Bible prophecies perhaps? Why do you think the government was up on it? Just curious. Steve |

Hi Steven, Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. So Micah foretold the coming of a King who being an eternal would be born. I am looking for any records biblical or otherwise that prophesie Christs birth, or tell of the men who did the prophesies. Why would I think the gov was up on it? Well, the three wise men evaded the gov when they were going to go see the new born king right? Why evade if its a non issue, so there was some relationship there. As well? The government did have every first born male child of the country slain when they found out the wise men decieved them right? Thats taking it pretty darn serious. I have me a feeling when they came to kill your 1st born male baby you'd be fighing to your last breath and beyond rather than allow it, so that government was inciting a revolt .. I feel that indicates the government was very fearful.. or.. am I mistaken? And Steve? thank you and thank you all for your help. Again, I appreciate it. :) |

Hello Lancelot777, Might I recommend a web site to help in your search? It's www.bible.org. Click on "Studies," and check out New Testament and Theology; or use "Search" on the web site. There is a wealth of information. Second, scripture doesn't say that the wisemen were avoiding the government when searching for the messiah. They just asked around the capital city. Matthew 2:1-2 (ESV) Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, [2] saying, "Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him." They DID avoid the government on the way home. Matthew 2:12 (ESV) And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way. Steve |
