Mommapbs: With all respect and appreciation of you, may I ask: You write: "If we define sinful as anything that is contrary to God's will, this MAY fall into that category." However, if we define sin as the transgression of the law, as the Bible defines it, then I wonder: There are 613 laws in the Torah (Pentateuch). Which of the 613 laws places age restrictions on a relationship? For that matter, where in the Bible do we read anything about an age of consent? To my knowledge, it simply isn't there. Bless you for all your good participation in the forum. --kalos |

Hi Kalos, yes, I agree with what you wrote, there is no mention of any age of consent, yet when a census was taken wasn't the age of 20 important (Ex 30:14)? My response to this young lady was more is keeping with the spirit of the law than the letter. The law was given so that we would recognize sin - can we recognize sin only in 613 ways? I think Paul addresses this issue with believers when he tells us that everything is lawful, but not all things are beneficial, nor does everything edify. 1 Cor 10:23-33. The relationship that this young woman was considering may be "lawful" but would is be profitable to both? Would it edify both? I'm wondering how many of us "mature" believers are as concerned as this young woman about what God thinks about OUR choices? I am humbled by her. Blessings, mommapbs |

Not lawful in the state in which I live. The relationship that this young woman was considering may be "lawful" -- but not in Illinois. I agree with you, Mommapbs, the relationship would be neither profitable nor edifying. Define sin. What is sin? What is written in the law? how readest thou? (Jesus asks this question in Luke 10:26.) KJV 1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. AMPLIFIED 1 John 3:4 Everyone who commits (practices) sin is guilty of lawlessness; for [that is what] sin is, lawlessness (the breaking, violating of God's law by transgression or neglect--being unrestrained and unregulated by His commands and His will). "The law was given so that we would recognize sin - can we recognize sin only in 613 ways?" "If we add to Scripture and weigh [people] down with even more unwarranted guilt, we become like the Pharisees and their legal experts. To protect holy principles, they added their own laws to Moses—like fences around fences—and in the process they heaped on others burdens that they themselves were not willing or able to bear (Luke 11:46)" (www.gospelcom.net/rbc/questions/). Legalism does not mean keeping the Law of Moses. Legalism is keeping man-made [religious] rules and regulations, adding to the Law. ____________________ Mommapbs: I agree with you that an intimate relationship between an 18-year-old and a 14-year-old is unwise -- not only unwise, but also illegal in Illinois, the state in which I live. Grace and peace to you, kalos ******************** For sin will not have authority over you; because you are not under legalism but under grace.
