1 | What NAME do we call our GOD? Ex 3:14 | Ex 3:15 | Matthew of La Conchita | 165641 | ||
If the Jews refused to say His name, one reason could be that they hesitated to give a manmade 'name' to a being that is infinitely above man. This would make sense given the lessons they learned after making graven images. Do you see the tie? We know that the 'name' of God was somewhat of a mystery to early Jews and that the mystery was solved in a little town in Bethlehem. Yet even today, we can be in a room with 10 other people and all of us can have different meanings when they say “god”. I would mean “the God of Abraham, Issiac and Jacob, the I AM (my personal favorite), the God who created the universe and whom came down in the form of a baby, born by the virgin, named Jesus (Savior), who died on a cross in our place for our sins in order to restore us to Himself, named King of all Kings etc.… (insert creed here). Another standing next to me would say that their god is allah or baal or some cosmic being with no form or name; and on and on... I find that naming God is a lifelong work. What I mean by ‘naming’ is that we are attempting to get to know that person to an extent that we can really mean something when we call His name. His name is truly found in the relationship with Him and I have only begun to define it, though, it is becoming clearer as I walk with Him and study, and ask Him. When we are speaking to others, we show them Jesus and the Bible. But we cannot get them to believe, that is the work of the Spirit, thus we learn the name of God, the name above all names. And when they are brought to the saving knowledge of Christ, they begin the same journey that we are on… getting to know the God of the universe, the One true God and knowing what He has for us in His plan. This is a little philosophical, and it is not meant to take away from the earlier notes only to add to them, so take it as you will. The best way to get to know the name of God is to search for Spiritual movement within the scriptures and through prayer, and interaction with other Christians. |
