EdB-thx for reply. we have one problem here-God is not affected by culture and He never acts without purpose-His purpose not ours "your ways are not my ways. Your thoughts are not my thoughts" In this context He was setting aside the Aaronic priesthood for Himself. The priest is the intersessor from man to God as the prophet is from God to man. The prophet has the voice but the priest must be cover by blood. As I write this I begin to think it is symbolic of our salvation and possibly represents that some will be with jesus at the right hand and some won't. -in Him -angel1 | ||||||

Angel1 Your right God isn't effected by culture but God does establish it. The whole Jewish culture was formed by the very hands of God. What they eat, where they lived, the fact they weren’t to depend on horses, how they planted their fields, rested their lands, treated their slaves, treated each other, how they bought and sold, how they married, who they married, their religion even down to the form and ritual. The blood covenant was established in culture and used by God to confirm His covenant. Everything God did was relating to the culture of the Jewish people. So don't tell us God wasn't part of the Jewish culture. Or that He didn't understand and address issues within that culture. Your right some will be with Jesus and some won't. Jesus said, "those that believe in Me will be with Me and those that don't won't." Jesus said, "He was the door and only through Him could we go to the Father." Again Jesus never talked about the left hand in any positive light. Why? Jesus was teaching the people. In that process Jesus used and constructed word pictures before them. They understood the clean right hand and the dirty left hand. There for to drive home a point when Jesus talked of positive meanings he assigned the right hand meaning. If Jesus meant something negative he related it to or assigned it to the left. If you so interested in allegory why not jump on that and run with it. Now again if you want to to find hidden meanings it this literal practice okay, it causes no harm but it is based on your desire to read something into what God was putting in place. Not a hidden meaning as you have tried to make it. EdB |

Angel1 Your are welcome. Understand what is happening within Christianity today. The Word is not being taught, people are not being exposed to the truth only to the things they want to hear. Many times these things are found in "hidden revelations" or "passages with deeper meanings" and many actually distort the truth. God did not write the book Bible to hide the truth but rather to REVEAL truth. While your not making false doctrine with your interruption of this passage and your causing no real harm. You are opening the door for someone else to do the same thing on another passage and come up with some goofy teaching. The early church (read catholic) loved to allegorize the Bible and claimed for years that without a correctly trained priest the average person could not read and understand the Bible for themselves. This caused many people to not to try and it also gave liberty to many false and incorrect teachings, and much misconduct within the church. While the Bible does use allegory, the allegory is revealed in previous or subsequent passages. Biblical allegory is a story with an underlying meaning that differs from the surface facts of the story itself; in other words it describes one thing by using the image of another. However this is not the case with your passage. Your passage gives every indication that it is to be taken literally without any hidden or deeper meaning. To try to force a meaning out it violates all the laws of grammar that define how we read and understand. It could also be said, to be adding too or taking away from the Bible and I’m sure you don’t want to do that. While your “Deeper meaning” causes no problem, it does contains truth, and is really a nice idea or analogy it just isn’t in this passage. No matter how hard you try to force it to be so, it ain’t gonna happen! Please I’m not trying to be argumentative, you asked the question why only the right side both Makarios and myself explained that and you then gave the your deeper meaning theory. I explained why it was not the case (that the left side was considered the unclean side) and you refuse to accept that. That is okay. But please stop trying to deeper meaning that just isn’t there. I apologize for my sarcasm in my earlier response, it was not one of my best responses. EdB |
