1 | EdB, Is promise here for believers today | Ex 23:25 | EdB | 146704
I'm saying the what the promise foreshadowed is for believers today. The promise was for two things; one land a literal promise given to Israel. The other object of the promise was "rest". This rest was actually a foreshadow of the rest Jesus would give each believer. So in that sense the promise of rest which was a foreshadow of the rest in Christ is for believers today. No where here or in my original response do I say the land known as the country of Israel was promised to the church, if that is what your asking. EdB |

Theresa This specific promise was made to only to the children of Israel and can not be applied to us or the church today. Any attempt to so is merely adding new meaning to scripture and none of us want to do that. EdB |

What do you think Paul meant when he said in Galatians 3:29 "And if ye be Christs' then are ye Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise" Do you not think the seed of Abraham was given this promise? |

6 | EdB, Is promise here for believers today | Ex 23:25 | Morant61 | 146777
Greetings Mitch! Again, context answers the question for us. The promise and the seed mentioned in Galatians both refer to Christ (see Gal. 3:15-18). Paul's point in this whole section is simply that the promise of the 'seed - who is Christ' was made prior to the giving of the Law. Paul is not arguing that all of the promises to Israel apply to us today. This specific promise was made to Abraham and 'his seed', who Paul identifies as Christ. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
