Subject: EdB, Is promise here for believers today |
Bible Note: Mitch There are three kinds of promises found in the Bible. Specific, conditional and unconditional. A specific promise is made to a person, nation, or group of people. A conditional promise is made with a condition that must be met. An unconditional is a general promise not made to specific person or people and carries no condition. God made many promises of all three genre, when we find a promise of God we must decide which of the three it is. God made many promises to Abraham one of them being his children would be God’s children. This is a specific promise made to Abraham. Paul is saying in Gal 3:29 we as adopted heirs with Jesus are also children of promise, that was promised to Abraham. Now the verse Ex 23:25 makes a promise it is a conditional and a specific promise. The condition is the children of Israel must obey God. But it is also specific in that it was made to Israel at that specific time and to them alone. They didn’t fulfill their part of the deal obeying God thus God allowed all those things come into their lives that he promised he wouldn’t. We know now they couldn’t keep the promise as such because Romans tells all men sin and fall short. Our righteousness is found only in Christ who’s blood covers our transgressions. How if your saying it applies to all righteous of God then as Christians because we are in Christ Jesus today can never get sick or have a miscarriage in our family for if we do then we must not be righteous in Christ therefore we must not be saved. See how convoluted this becomes? Now my dear friend I and others have tried to show you your error. If you don’t want to accept what we are saying that is fine, that is your choice. However understand the position your taking is outside orthodox Christianity. It has been carefully considered by those that are charged with making such calls. They have declared this teaching without valid Scriptural support and therefore is to be consider false teaching. It’s origins have been traced back to teachings that even you would disagree with and has been simply whitewashed, cleaned up and made palatable to those looking for answers but refuse to seek the leading of the Holy Spirit in seeking those answers. This forum is for the study of the Bible not the perpetuation of falsehoods. I personally see no reason to discuss this with you any further. Be blessed and I pray your questions will be answered one day in such a way you will then understand what I'm saying to you. Until then keep searching and remember there are those of us on the forum that have walked where your now walking and we are here for you if you ever need us. EdB |
