1 | Can a congragent hear form God ? | Jer 33:3 | DocTrinsograce | 223001
Hi, chicklet... Like Brother Brad suggests, you would be far more likely to hit the mark by reading the Bible, and setting aside the mystical stuff. If the following applies to the circumstances encountered by Jeremiah, how much more are we to walk only in the Word (Hebrews 1:1-2). "The prophet who has a dream may relate his dream, but let him who has My word speak My word in truth. What does straw have in common with grain?" declares the LORD. "Is not My word like fire?" declares the LORD, "and like a hammer which shatters a rock? Therefore behold, I am against the prophets," declares the LORD, "who steal My words from each other. Behold, I am against the prophets," declares the LORD, "who use their tongues and declare, 'The Lord declares.' Behold, I am against those who have prophesied false dreams," declares the LORD, "and related them and led My people astray by their falsehoods and reckless boasting; yet I did not send them or command them, nor do they furnish this people the slightest benefit," declares the LORD. (Jeremiah 23:28-32 NASB) You can stand on rock solid ground with the Scriptures; but all those other things are nothing but shifting sand. In Him, Doc |

Dearest Doc, At least I assume it will be day by the time you read my post. I tried following your response, and unfortunately could not follow your input. I trust the question is whether a member of the congregation can hear from God. Are you therefore saying the Scriptures, is the only way of hearing from God to avoid false prophets? At some instance in the Bible, God caused a donkey to speak to Balaam. (Numbers 22:28). God can use any medium He so desires to talk to His people. He communicated in visions and through angels, I don't see why He would have changed. He talked directly to His people; God still talks to us directly. If I may borrow Bro. Brad's analogy of the Court Room, the Judge can still talk directly to the defendant though the mediator may choose to answer for the defendant. You mentioned that "...but all those other things are nothing but shifting sand." Which other things are you referring to here now sir? Are you saying God speaking to one directly is shifting sand? My dearest Doc, could it be this is one of those your hard to understand posts? I have read this over and over for some time now, but I still can't figure out what it is that I'd be missing if at all any. Can you kindly explain further sir. I know some may have understood you, but there are others like me who have a challenge of understanding your answer sir. Thank you, King T! |

3 | Can a congragent hear form God ? | Jer 33:3 | BradK | 223006
Hello KingT, If I may comment. What we're dealing with here is how God speaks to us today as believers. Heb. 1:1-2 tells us, "God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world." (NASB) God is sovereign, He can and has spoken through a donkey, etc. The point is, we have the completed canon of Scripture whereby He has left us His Word. The Bible is the Word of God. It is God's Word- Him speaking to us! To say otherwise or look for various mystical methods is to negate the authority and sufficiency of His Holy Word! The question is: How does God speak to us today? By the way, I don't believe I gave an analogy of the Court Room? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Ha! Ha! Hi Brad, Somebody mentioned the Court Room in one of the responses, thought it was you. Sorry about that. You too are now sounding like Doc. I don't believe it is looking for various mystical methods. It is not even looking for anything at all. It is knowing that God can speak to us anyhow he chooses. Of course we have a foolproof mode of communication in His Word, but to limit His communication with us only to His Word is limiting His Sovereignty, I'd say. Thank you for Speaking the Truth in Love, and keep on enlightening us. Stay blessed, King T! |

Sawubona, King... Our brother Brad has explained very well, I think. We do not exclude the possibility that God could speak to any one of us, even in an audible voice; nor do we exclude that all truth, no matter how it is communicated, is from Him. The old theologians used to talk about something called the "light of nature." Read Romans 1:18-23. We may know some things just by looking at the world around us. We may even know something about what God must be like by those observations. Nevertheless, that knowledge is inadequate. All that we are to know (for faith, obedience, and belief) is fully disclosed by God in the Word. Indeed, we are to walk in the Word, live by the Word, and be sustained by the Word. Once someone asked me about dreams. I told them that if they had a dream that seemed to be from God, then check the Scriptures. If the Scriptures contradicted the dream, then throw out the dream. If the Scriptures affirmed the dream, then throw out the dream and cling to the Scriptures. We are a forum in which participation requires that everyone believe this way. It is a requirement of our joining by our gracious host, the Lockman Foundation. This teaching is called sola Scriptura. We have no interest in dreams, visions, and whatnot; for they are not to be our authority. We live for the King by the Word of the King. Indeed, we live by every word of the Lord. If He were talking to people all over the world, we would have to be running around gathering those words. In His mercy and grace, He stopped all such nonsense by giving us a completed and closed revelation. In Him, Doc |

Kubonga mina Baba! (as in I thank you Sir!) Wonderful salutation from a monoglot! Thank you sir for your explanation and thank you for the invitation to drop you an email. I will gladly do that sir. I believe this post was tailor made just for me... how flattering. It is one the most easily understood from the Doc. Though most of the times a little hard to understand, I love the way you write. Stay in the abundance of His blessings. King T! |
