Finder, I'm surprised that you would so callously and boldly question the Lord God. "what to do with this passage of Scripture?" Answer: Trust it as God's word in spite of the fact that our mere, mortal minds can't wrap around it. I can't grasp the fullness of the truth of the Trinity, so, what to do with it? Seeing that it is clearly taught in Scripture realize that it's truth depends not one iota on my ability to relate it to my nor any other's experience. I agree that you FOUND A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM in the book of Proverbs, HO HUM. Words of advise. The bible is either the word of God or it's not the word of God. If you believe it is not, you have nothing lasting to gain from it. If you believe it is, never again assume it's qualifications to rest on your own substantiation. Sincerely, Jeff PS, I would approach even a serpent with more caution. |

Jeff, Be sure your answer didn't offer any contribution as to how the referred verse may be applied clearly in reality. The illustrations of all the people that were raised in Christian homes and today consider Christianity totally irrelevant is for me a far clearer answer to me than the vague answer you provided. Dear Finder, Your reasoning is specious at best. There are many who have been raised in Christian homes and who HAVE walked in the way of Christ. Furthermore, even those you cite may yet repent, to follow Him. If the set of people from which you are drawing your observations are representative of your illustration, I'd say, with much conviction, you're running with the wrong crowd! Which may well account for the weakness of your understanding of the doctrines of the inerrancy, inspiration, and authority of the Scriptures. If you so need, we can explain these doctrines to you. Considering the jaundiced view you take, are you aware that embracing certain fundamental doctrines are requirements, by Lockman, in order to exercise the privilege of posting? In Him, Doc |

What is wrong with this site. I have been a member for about a year now, and have asked several times. "Where is the love and compassion" People are chewed up, spit out, torn to pieces, called names, judged because they asked a question that doesn't measure up to your standards. You belittle them because they are maybe not a scholar such as yourself. Some people, like myself, are just regular church-going people who are trying their best to learn and grow. And all they get is belittled and threatened to be kicked out this wonder, scholar filled site. It is a few wonderful people on this site, but there are also quite a few that I am speaking of and you know who you are with your self-righteous selves. You don't have to threaten to kick me off just do it. But take it to heart. You will answer for your behavior some day. Examine yourselves. Yes I know, I need to examine myself too. -------- winningside | ||||||

Dear Winningside, Fortunately, we need not discern based on single postings. We can go back and see the full set of anyone's posts, the wisdom or folly preserved since the beginning of the forum. Using this feature, we are able to detect trends in a poster. The most loving thing we can do is to correct their hetredoxy or error. Love isn't about just smiling happily at every wind of doctrine that blows through -- contrary to popular belief. Rebuke -- Biblical rebuke -- is bringing to bear the truth in a specific area for the benefit of the object of our rebuke. Neither is Biblical love just a matter of continuous amicable behavior -- another misconception often taught today. In Him, Doc |

Biblical love is pulling someone from the pits of hell. A sinner going down the wrong path. Correcting with a strong hand if need be. Not tearing to pieces another christian for asking a question. Not all people are on the same level at one time. You didn't start out "all-knowing" you learn and grow step-by-step. Sometimes you have to ask yourself "how would I answer this question if I were face to face with this person?" It is a brave thing to have the confort of looking at a computer screen. Rebuking with love is one thing and tearing to pieces is entirely another. Ecclesiasters 7:16 Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself? ------- winningside |
