1 | Were Eve's desires sinful? | Gen 3:6 | Lionstrong | 5305
These thoughts stem from our discussion of the temptation of Christ, Heb 4:15. Eve's desires were not sinful. At this point she (like Christ) wasn't a sinner. Satan tricked her into fulfilling legitimate desires illegitimately. I've heard preachers site 1 John 2:16 (For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.) This verse is misapplied to Eve. She was tricked into sinnig, but were her desires the sin? What sin broght the curse on mankind? "Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?" "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat from it'; Cursed..." What, then, was her sin? "(From)...the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die." Yes, the sin began in her heart, but was her sin her desires or was it saying yes to an illegitimate way of fulfilling legitimate desires? Your thoughts and comments welcome. Lionstrong |

2 | Were Eve's desires sinful? | Gen 3:6 | Hank | 5326
Eve (and Adam) were not sinners from the time God created them. What then caused them to become sinners? Was it the serpent? Or was it something having to do with the power to choose? Eve clearly had a choice. She could listen to the serpent and thereby fall prey to his trickery, or she could listen to God. The serpent (Satan) didn't make her do what she did. She had the power to choose, and she made her choice in complete awareness of what God had said she must not do. Her sin, like all sin, can be reduced to the common denominator of disobedience of God's commands. Eve was obviously unwilling to accept responsibility for her disobedience, so she blamed the serpent. Adam was likewise unwilling to accept his, so he blamed Eve. The buck passing had begun....Satan used every trick in his arsenal to tempt Christ and failed. Satan failed because Christ chose to obey the commands of God the Father. Adam and Eve chose to disobey. God is still around. Satan is still around. The choice of whom to obey is still around and is ours to make. --Hank
3 | What was Eve's sin? | Gen 3:6 | Lionstrong | 5337
In our choices we are at a decisive disadvantage. Our choices, unlike our first parents, are biased by our indwelling sin. In fact the Bible says we were dead in our sin. Being dead in sin, we could not make a live choice to do the right thing. God had to make us alive in order for us to make the right choice and choose Christ. Our first parents could freely choose between right and wrong because they were unhampered by sin. We are, and our choices are not free of the lethal influence of our fallen nature.
4 | What was Eve's sin? | Gen 3:6 | Hank | 5350
Lionstrong, are you saying that we no longer have free will to choose, or that because of our fallen nature, we do not have it to the extent that Adam and Eve did before the fall? Is it any harder, or easier, to resist temptation today than it was for Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden? How does the Bible speak on this issue? --Hank
5 | What was Eve's sin? | Gen 3:6 | Searcher56 | 5355
We have a free will to chose, Paul told of the struggle in Romans 7:7ff. Sin and evil were around when Adam and Even sinned - Satan had a choice and chose evil. He wanted to be like God. Sin is a lethal influence ... Eve, then Adam did not have to fall. It was more letha for them, for they were perfect. We are born sinners. Is it any harder, or easier, to resist temptation today than it was for Adam and Eve? I think it is the same. Tho, we do have the written Word and all they had was walks with the Lord, and very few rules ... we have many more. Steve Butler |

I heard it explained that Adam and Eve had a choice of whether or not to sin, we just have a choice on how much are we going to sin.
